As you said, it's a common problem for a non-native. I guess my English is weird for you too though it's maybe understandable.
tbh, 作る and 創る is troublesome even for a native. When I can not decide which one is right, I use 作る. I don't see much of 創る.
Your advice is helpful for me. Thank you. To watch a movie alone is cool...I think "That's adult!".
