i'm not sure if i believe you when you say you like spicy food -_- when i leave New Mexico, people offer me food and they'll say things like "dude be careful it's hot!" or "i'm serious man, it's really hot" and when i try it i feel an immense sense of disappointment because it's the most mild taste ever -_-

The same thing happens to me. In my parents home, back in europe people have no idea of what actual spiciness is.
IMHO south america holds the spiciest members of the pepper family. Thats the stuff that makes you sweat like a pig just
by smelling it. If you dont get hot like you were in a sauna, the chili is lacking something, thats for sure.
