I've tried upgrading and downgrading the drivers, I've tried system restoration, I've tried tinkering with the registry... Nothing seems to work!


Only thing I can think of now is a complete reinstall... and if that fails probably a hardware fault?

Then it's the chipset, most common I guess when you got problems with your audio hardware. Do you have a graphic card with HDMI? try that with sound, then you know more if it's the hardware or completely your windows which is f*cking with your audio.
