I agree, but I read the light novel, and phantom bullet arc is pretty awesome, Asuna is barely mentioned except in the beginning a bit and ending, they take the focus off the romance and now it's pure action/murder mystery with guns.
Also gun theme is really great. Especially the new girl. And Kirito is a girl in this one.
