On work days I need to get up around 6:30, so I try to not get up much later than 8 (got up around 7:30 the last few days).

Exactly the opposite problem here. I'm an incredibly light sleeper. If someone wants to check to see if I am awake, just them walking towards my door will wake me up before they get there ><
