@Telos apparently my attendance was contingent on whether some other people were going, and they bailed. Both myself and brother didn't know this, and when he was randomly texted to ask if he was still going, he said 'yes', having no idea what was going on. Apparently his answer counts as mine too, frustratingly enough, and he is too embarrassed to fix it now that he knows why he was texted, I guess (and kind of too late now).

It is pretty frustrating that nobody ever consults me about these things, and almost always the worst option is selected because of it.
