Another way to look at it is that places with microwaves tend to be more modernized. Modernized societies tend to have lower birth rates because it is not necessary to create large families, thinking that a significant portion would be deceased before long. Microwaves might also keep a kid alive longer since I would think it is safer to use than a stove or something ;p Technically the waves should be contained although people believe it safer to stay away while its cooking anyhow =/
