Our professors at University might go on strike next week... I really hope that doesn't happen. That would be immensely annoying.
 
92685 Do they want better pay/benefits? Yeah that would be annoying for all the students there. My brother got called back to work also since the shutdown is over.
 
92687 It is really annoying for the teachers as well. It would happen directly before 2 assignment are due and 2 midterms, for me. That would be a royal pain in the ass.

Yeah sounds like a pain in the ass for everybody, hope they can work something out. We had an earthquake drill at my college today, and we don't even get earthquakes in Illinois, or this part of the U.S. at all, so that kinda confused me a little. We get tornadoes, but no earthquakes.
 
92690 you have drills there? We do drills in school, but not higher education that I know of.
 
92691 yes we do, it's a community college, not a uni, will be transferring to a 4 year college next semester.
 
92693 Not really, no, but we have drills for whatever reason, I believe it is a state law, and required. Each state does things a little different.
 
92694 Maybe if class structure is more regulated there or something... because if a class was suddenly interrupted with a drill everyone would be pissed (I would be very, very mad XD).

This link contains a comprehensive emergency operations plan for access by all students, faculty, and staff. This is an all-hazards plan that prepares CLC community members to be able to respond to any college emergency and is based on the National Incident Management System. Also, the College conducts fire, tornado, and earthquake drills on a yearly basis.
 
92696 I guess it also helps that nothing every really happens where I am. We can have a bad thunderstorm, or very very rarely a small tornado, but nothing too serious really.

Well I guess we have flooding every year, but everyone knows it is going to happen. :P
 
92700 You get really big snow storms there don't you? We get really bad tornadoes here.
