1) pick a character you like or somebody you find easy to use
2) go through training mode and practice all combo's and learn moves that you think will be useful to you ( try the tutorial system if you still having trouble)
3) learn to read opponents tactics, and learn how to counter them. this game is more about mind games
4) side stepping helps, throws help
5) practice practice
6) spamming won't get you anywhere
7) experience, it will take you time but if you follow all the steps you should better with time
