Cuz its evil. Some random guy that likes blood and darkness sat in the corner of their dark damp room and thought up a sad little game that matches his personality. He made odd hypnotic designs on the pieces so that any person playing will be his little slave and play forever. Mwahahahaha. The game prepared the minions for war by having them fight each other for dominance and create kings who would lead him to victory. Of course the mages guild found out about his lil plot and locked him in the deep dark dungeon in the tower of doom.
Why does chess have black and white pieces?
 
The white pieces were modeled after my personality (good and nice)
While the blacks are taken from the wolves (evil!!!!!)
And when you mash that together you get chess, a good vs evil game :P
