Any tweaks to improve download speed for XDCC?

I've just started using XDCC and I have a lot of questions to ask but my main question is: are there any tweaks in settings to improve the download speed?

I'm currently using mIRC and followed everything from this helpful guide http://www.anime-sharing.com/forum/site-support-3/downloading-via-xdcc-49142/. Atm, I'm getting around 100~150KB/s though I'm not sure if this is the speed I should be getting or not.
I know that it really depends on bot's upload speed, traffic/congestion, location etc but if there are any small changes I can make to improve the speed slightly I'll definitely give it a go.

Besides closing other stuff (software updates, weather and similar gadgets, self-refreshing web apps like Twitter, etc) that might be using your connection, I'm not sure if there's any other way. I'm inclined to believe that it's bad latency between you and the server (since you two are so far apart). For the record, I always get close to maxing out the bots' speed, ranging from 6 to 9MBps.

I cant help here lol as i have never used XDCC as where i live the internet is bad, so i have to download to a server over seas to get max speeds for me.
Also a speed text would greatly help to see if that is the issue.

Tested when there were no external interruptions such as torrents.
Moreover, I live in Australia.

And yes, I believe the reason for such low speed is due to long distance from the bots/servers.

I guess there is nothing I can do at this point?

It seems that with your current line speed, your download speed will be at ~1MB/s at best condition. Our XDCC server is in France, therefore, I doubt anything can be done to improve the speed.

Yes, that's correct.

Sigh I guess this is what you get for living such a faraway from everywhere and getting a cable/fiber cost a fortune in Australia.

Well it's unfortunate from what I can tell since I know some people who live in Australia and even if they were to get cable or fiber optic to download stuff. As long the ISP does not invest heavily in getting better network connection around the world, your download speed for packets transfer will suffer. Only reason why your download speed in torrents is faster is due to mass P2P packets being exchanged.

Currently in your area/country, I would say iinet probably has one of the better network infrastructure that actually have a route to English then to Europe. Can't remember the exact details but there's really nothing you can do in the end.

I live in New zealand which has the same issue. I have to use Rapidleech to send all my links to a server then i can download at max speed.
It is more efficent then most other sites etc as it takes about 10-30 seconds to transfer a 800-1gb file to the server then i get speeds of 1.5mb down.
In new zealand they passed the spying law here too sigh, and now the American government wants to put 100million towards a new fiber cable to the states which means they will be spying as well.
