True but it all depends on which group the cards are made to target and the card battle systems.
Yugi-Oh made a big impact in the west because it was easy to play. Magic The gathering was also popular but because it's more complex and also have many varieties to choose, but newer younger players wont play it til they are a little older to fully understand combos and such.

If the play style is good and isn't to complex then it'll be well receive.

the likes of cardfight vanguard, weiss schwarz, n victory spark. But they mainly use anime char. as the card themes.

no sweat.
but then i don really care bout them either. bushiroad cards r not cheap, n it's weird 2 use anime chars to fight. once yu gi oh mania died out everythin died out 2gether..............
