Plot comes first for me. It's where most of the worldbuilding happens, especially in the main storyline. If it's thin and boring, I might lose interest and not want to get to konw the LIs anymore. I'll just drop the game.
I go for romance, usually the genres of otome, the prot goes to second hand and for me that is fine if, for example, a game has a bad plot but good romances, I can fake dementia with the story, but if the romance is horrible and the plot is good, I don't care about finishing
I think both matter to me. I don't like romance being the center of everything. With a good plot, the LIs feel like they come alive in that world and you can actually experience the world with them.
The plot!!! the storybuilding and lore is a big part for me regarding in what makes the LIs interesting. If their lore is basically non-existing, then it's straight-up boring... I don't like romance without substance, i feel like it makes the otome much, much less eye-catching and immersive as a player. The romance, for me, is nothing if it's not accompanied with a good writing, with actual care on it.
both!! i like a good balance. i want a well-paced plot that gets me hooked, but the romance still needs to feel like a priority. if i wanted a game that doesn't focus on romance at all, i can just play non-otome vns instead.
I value romance much more than the plot. Often, a story might be interesting—with plot twists that keep you entertained—but if the romance is scarce or missing entirely, I start to get bored. I played an otome game where the main plot unfolded throughout the entire route, but there was very little romance and a lot of filler content; it bored me so much that I eventually gave up on it.
That is why I prefer 18+ otome games; they focus primarily on the romance and the development of the couple rather than the plot. In contrast, games not rated for adults tend to focus more on the storyline or general development.
The romance. If all I wanted was a good plot, I wouldn't choose to play an otome game in the first place. It isn't like the plot doesn't matter at all though. An otome game having a good plot is like the finishing touch that can bring an otome game to the next level, but without good romance, it might as well not be an otome game.
It depends on what I'm looking for at the moment. Romance is usually one of my favorite topics so I like to focus on that. But without a doubt, I advocate supporting otomes with good plot so that they continue to develop more, good quality products within its story, character development, etc. reminds me of my love for these stories without a doubt!!
Both are important to me, but since it's an otome game, I'd like the romance to be given more focus. If the game gets so caught up in its setting or plot that it neglects the process of the characters falling in love and getting together, I can't help but feel a little disappointed.
The plot for sure. I think for characters you need some story already. I am even fine with platonic stuff... To get me invested in characters I need context to them.
Even if the story isn't very good, there needs to a be a setup/relationships.
Even if i hate a story, and love a character: the story was the thing that could make me interested in them!
It depends on the whole premise of the game like if it's story-driven (e.g., high fantasy games), then I value the plot more. Vice versa, if the romantic relationship with the characters is more important. This way I won't be too disappointed if the other aspect is lacking because I already know what to expect or focus on ig.
Hmm, now that I think of it, it's about both I guess. I was going to say romance because that's always what I'm looking for in otome and bl games. Back when I started playing visual novels (like togainu no chi, and lamento), I wanted to *know* what was happening too!
