What do you value more in otome: the plot or the romance?

I think with so many games, what attracts me first beside character design is the plot, so probably plot first, but after I start to play the game, romance becomes equally important, but I do think that is better when the romance is built through the plot rather than just inserting romantic moments for the sake of romance

For otome game, romance cannot be missing from it. But plot is important too because only romance with no story behind it would be boring. A good plot would make the characters more attractive and it's what keeps me engaged.

If I had to choose just one, I'd say romance. Obviously, I also appreciate a good story, but ultimately, I'm playing an otome game, so I expect romance to be the main focus. An interesting plot would be even better, but romance is still the most important thing for me. 🎀

I do agree that romance is very important, it's the whole reason why I started playing otome games after all, but I think I value the plot more. I played games that I heard were criticized to have little romance but when I played it myself I thought it had an appropriate amount LOL

I'm definitely a sucker for seeing the build up of the relationship of the MC and LI so I don't really mind if they get together at the end as long as I see them developing deeper feelings for each other as the story goes on. Personally, I also think there's something nice about just seeing them spend time with each other even though its not necessarily presented as "romantic".

In my opinion, both the plot and romance elements are important. The plot is the backbone of the game, determining whether the gameplay is enjoyable, while good romance elements can make a otome game more fun.

It's a really tough choice, but if I forced myself to pick one, I'd say the plot. If the story is boring, I find it almost impossible to keep playing and just end up dropping it.
That being said, there has to be a clear romance where they actually end up together in the end! If a game has zero romance or leaves their relationship completely ambiguous, that's a dealbreaker for me and I wouldn't play it.

Probably the plot. Of course romance is a big part of why I play otome games, but if the story doesn't keep me interested, I find it much harder to get invested in the romance.

For me, the best romances are the ones that grow naturally alongside the plot instead of feeling like the plot only exists to push the couple together. I also really enjoy otome where the heroine has her own goals, struggles, and character development. It makes both the story and the romance much more memorable.

Definitely romance, but I think it depends on the genre. I generally prefer games with a more grounded plot, something easy to digest where the relationships are the most important aspect. Plot-heavy games are nice too, especially when they have great romance on top of a well-written, strong story ( ˘ω˘ )

I think romance is more important; overly complicated stories are interesting, but sometimes they can feel exhau

If I had to choose then romance. That's the main reason why I play otome games/visual novels/etc. But I really like it when the story is interesting as well.

Definitely Romance. If the romance part is perfect, I'm OK to skip the plot parts and go directly to the romance (just glance at the plot to just understand the background), and might play those parts again after the while. But if just the plot's is a masterpiece but the romance is weak, I will force myself to go through each part of the story to get the whole "truth", and then kind of never want to open it again because there is no "mystery" anymore.

For me, both the plot and the romance are important. However, if I had to choose one, it would definitely be the plot, because it is a well-crafted storyline that describes the story's development and events that gives rise to the various interactions between the characters. It is a well-founded and plausible plot that makes the romance all the more compelling and enjoyable.

It's not black and white I'd say. Really depends on what I'm looking for although both are important! On a general note I might value lore, because romance won't hit as hard if the world building or lore isn't good

Probably the plot more, because if it's weak, the romance won't be able to make up for it that much. But when it's the other way around — a good story with romance on top — it's just perfect.

It will be romance for me, if the characters are attractive enough, I will continue it even if the plot is bad. But if the characters cannot attract me, even a good plot cannot attract me to continue reading.

I value the plot more unless its a fandisc then its the romance

I would choose a story-focused game.
If the story is interesting enough to draw me in, I naturally start to feel attached to the characters and admire them.
When I come across a truly deep and compelling story, that game stays with me in my memory for a very long time.
