What do you value more in otome: the plot or the romance?

i lean a bit more towards the romance side. i usually want to see how the plot can fit in with the romance and how each route can take it and give the romance, but i still value routes where the plot isnt in the main focus and its just mainly the plot device for the route setup. sometimes its nice to just see the characters fall in love and not have to deal with some crazy situation thats going on. so even though i do like the plot mainly, if the romance is good then it can make up for the route being less focused on the plot

Value both of them!! There's otome game which had few romantic scene ( just at the happy ending you will see ml and heroine being romantic the plot is so cool i give it 10/10 but if only they increased the romantic scenes, it would be perfect for me

For me, the story always comes first. Romance is a nice bonus, but only if it's built on top of a strong and well-written plot.

I value romance aspect way more than plot. I don't mind plot being too predictable, but if the romance part is bad, that's a big no for me.
I love otome games with good plot, but it is not this important to me

Depends on the subgenre.

If it is a riveting fantasy story, a dark horror story, or something with a high-stake plot, the plot should be the primary focus, but can have romance elements of course.

A slice-of-life that focuses on romance? Yeah, the plot can be secondary to the romance.

Romance-only focused games feels a little bit boring to me. Many romantic stories have similar structure, so I'd like to have something going on in the background to spice things up.

I also prefer to fight for romance, so it would be a prize in the end, after many story hardships are overcomed, instead of having it served on a plate from the first lines, so plot is more important to me

For me, in general, the plot comes first, I can handle bad graphics if the story and characters are incredible *cough* FE3h *cough*. But if I am playing an otome, I expect romance to be the most important part of the game.

I think i prefer a good plot than a good romance (?) bc ik alot that were disappointed after playing jack jeanne bc it's sold as an otome game ( aka romance game ) but i really appreciated it alot !!! I really really like the plot and the story and was tbh more into ig than having to get with a character , there's none to almost no romance in this game and it didn't bother me at all !! I think they had to make a choice and picking the plot as definitely the good choice bc that otome is one of my fave otome !!

funnily enough not at first! at first, it was sold as just a "romance game", not specifically "otome". just like homicipher (although this one is barely otome) was just a horror game at first. i wonder if thats why? but i havent heard people complaining about bustafe's romance, even though it wasnt calling itself otome at first either.. interesting

I prefer a focus on story over romance. I've noticed that with romance or relationship-heavy games I've played the plot often seems like an afterthought and some hand-waving away plotholes is done, especially in the games where you don't find out the full story until you play Every Character's Route. If the game has no interesting story though and owns that, and doesn't try to make it grandiose without proper justification, then a romance-focused game is more palatble for me. Otherwise it comes across like the writers are trying to eat their cake and have it too, and I can't say that that works out well in most cases.
