What do you think about faceless MC ?

Honestly, I don't like it. It's even disappointing that this has become more common in some novels...
I wouldn't see a problem if it was a MC without eyes and just with a bang going to where the eyes should be (as it used to be in some old otome games and visual novels), but now it's annoying to see the same thing in almost all current games.
I don't care about simple character design or anything like that, I just don't want to be bald, without eyebrows and eyes😭

I don't like faceless MCs, because it feels more fake I don't know, because it ruins the atmosphere and feels weird. 😭

I don't understand the point, I find it annoying, especially the male gaze hentai thing of not having eyes... It looks horrible (looking at voltage games, symkiss and gakuen alice ps2...)

I never minded it since many old otome games have faceless or at least no eyes, ik its to self insert urself but i dont really like those gray self insert ones….it have always been a joke to me mostly knowing it as yn, even if its here to self insert u i cant manage to do even if i want….

The type where they have no eyes & partially obscured faces? There's something kind of endearing about intentionally nondescript designs. I know they gave her eyes eventually, but I remember loving Starry Sky's Tsukiko even when she didn't have them, thinking she was so so lovely! Helps that I love bangs that are long enough they obscure the eyes; The King of Fighters' Shermie was always my girl, still is!

This applies to all kinds of media though; otome, BL, bishoujo games... in some way, I feel like I watched so much harem anime as a kid and in my teens that I ended up brainwashing myself into "getting" why the most plain slice-of-bread men are appealing. So I guess there's lots of different reasons I'm actually partial to these kinds of designs! As long as they're not greyed out and completely devoid of features! The only time those work is like... when they're tools to pull the story forward? A-la the RGU shadow girls.

I hate it!! Especially since those types of mc usually have personality (sometimes even bad personalities... i see it in western indie games), which is much harder to tolerate than the mc's face. I love the mcs so much, a lot of the time, they're much cuter than even the lis, so i love looking at them, this just ruins it for me...
And even if it's the issue that mcs with canon design can make it harder to self insert, i don't see how it's not even harder to self insert as a gray alien?
I'm sorry,, i just feel like this choice ruins perfect cgs. Maybe even an eyeless mc is better than a completely gray one. I don't mind those mcs as much.

So what do you think about faceless MC on CG? Do you like , dislike or don't care?
I never liked faceless MC without eyes.
But recently i saw many vn have grey , bald mc and some don't have even eyes, nose, lips .
It ruins the atmosphere for me. Looks scary and fun sometimes.
A romantic moment turns into a comedy. LI hugs and kiss mannequin .View attachment 100783
It looks scary as heck like what in gods name is this 😭

Also on a psychological level, being uncomfortable by this is a good sign for OP or anyone else because that means consent/non verbal consent with intimacy/affection is important for you to perceive a good relationship. This shows through the MC's joy or interest, not always verbally.

To have none feels uncanny; the MC looks like an object. I'm sure this is for self inserts, but the price it carries is somewhat disturbing for games that rely on mutual consent and expression of love being the key ingredient to the otome (for the ones that aren't intended to be toxic otomes like Diabolik Lovers, that is).

The alternative reaction might be a bit unnerving if you think about it...

They sure have their own great things (like self insert for some people) but also because of that, their personality is pretty much...general?

Nah, I don't normally like it. Like, I need to know who I am playing as. That way, it's easy to understand and imagine the scenarios.

I don't like it. To me it takes out the serious tone of the story and looks bad.
The mc having a set aparence never got in the way of my self insert, I also like to be "represented" by a pretty girl (I also like to look at the mc if they are pretty 🥰).

HOWEVER, to me a manikin mc it's still better than those games which never shows the mc and the CGs are always first person povs. To me, these are pretty boring cgs and I can see it limiting the romance scenes since not every romance act is good to see in first person povs...

I don't like faceless MC in CGs. If you're going to draw an MC, you might as well do it properly. From a visual standpoint, only complete depictions of the MC make for a truly complete artwork. I also really enjoy seeing interactions between the male and female leads—certain emotions simply can't be conveyed unless both characters are present in the scene. If such CGs later get merchandise released, I'd gladly buy them.

I thought that was a thing of the past. I honestly can't even remember the last time that i saw that. Maybe it's common in mobile games ?? i haven't played many of those. They might as well just draw a face instead tbh

I think it depends on the game. I'm fine whether the MC is faceless or not, as long as the story & gameplay is good. However, the customization of character is more appealing than faceless MC for some people.

Although it's not completely unacceptable, it's definitely pretty weird.

It feels like you can't really look at it closely—if they're going to do it this way, they might as well find an angle where the mc's face isn't shown.

Faceless MCs feel too tumblr askblog-y for me, so I really can't do it... if it's "an mc that never shows up on the screen", though, i think that could be interesting.

I dont like faceless MCs. As soon as you see the faceless MC in the CGs it throws me out of the immersion. It just feels blank and unnatural. It is as if the MC and the LIs dont even exist in the same place. I also like MCs with a tangible personality, so I can put myself in the MCs shoes and if the MC is faceless, I cant read their Emotions well. The CGs also dont look as pretty in my opinion.

I realize this is intended to enhance immersion, but for me, it has the opposite effect.
Even if the main character doesn't look like me, it doesn't matter; I'm here to enjoy a story, not to obsess over or feel jealous of a fictional character.
