What are the boundaries you would or would not tolerate in an otome game?

One thing I can't tolerate is an LI who already has a fiancée who loves him or is still in love with someone else, which is often seen in villainess/otome-isekai manga. I know it doesn't show up in the otome games I play, but if a game did have it, I'd probably just drop it immediately.

dang i agree, I played boyfriend to death when I was younger (pretty young) and being honest I was traumatized by Cain violence towards mc, even killing her and commiting cannibalism. Those are deffinitively my boundaries, I can accept a little bit of mistreatenings if there is redemption bUT WTFFFF WITH CAIN, I couldn't play anymore lmao, it was my first time playing and the worst, i'm aware the other routes are not that horrible but i'm taking my time aaaa
 
I can't tolerate NTR (cheating), harem, manipulation, dumb MC, sometimes love triangle drama is unbearable to me. I can bear physical abuse (i mean i like psychological theme) if the MC is smart enough for her to escape from the so situation, but tbh that was RARE i thnk.

I've read countless smut manga and shoujo that maybe manipulation and NTR is the MOST that i can't tolerate because this element is really common in there.

i was also saying wtf while reading your summary of the route, whats wrong with hiim? seriously, cant imagine mc has to go through and endure all that, it kinda make me sick cause it also include cannibalism, mc you choose the wrong people i said! how can mc even end up with him anyway and is there any ending where mc live is spared??
 
I don't like extreme violence or really degrading treatment either! And honestly, one of the worst things for me is when the LI doesn't actually love the MC even by the end of the game. I really hate it when an LI leads the MC on or plays with her feelings without genuinely caring about her.

Yeah, that really bothers me too. If you didn't care, why did you waste my time? I remember certain characters from specific routes who still make my blood boil to this day for using and playing with the her protagonist's feelings for their own personal gain; just thinking about it makes me furious—I feel such strong distaste for that kind of behavior, realizing at the end of the route that I'd completely wasted my time. 😤😤

huh? who is it? can you include the character in spoiler tag so i wouldnt encounter/play his route, its just psychopath behavior fr

i can't stand cheating LIs, rivalry and hatred between women to get LI's attention. It also annoys me when the MC is written to be a pushover who has no agency and just lets things happen to her. Bad writing is a major turnoff, too.

I cannot tolerate the male lead having a white moonlight in his heart and treating the female lead as a substitute! This is my limit, I absolutely cannot tolerate it, otherwise I will simply give up and not play.

I'm sooo glad to see that it feels like everyone also hates the same thing-- cheating is unforgivable ! There are only a few circumstances I would come to terms with it-- such as the LI being FORCED to do it by someone else otherwise harm would befall the female lead.... if it's something tragic like that then 'ok i guess its not your fault' i would think, but still be rather unhappy still HAHA and then very severely degrading words is one thing I really dislike (im ok with like normal degrading words you know.. but i mean those VERY HARSH ONES T.T) which unfortunately gets used quite a lot especially in R18 games in a non sexy context... especially since the female lead is usually soft spoken in otome games.. its like a one-way bullying >;O

I only remember those routes so far.
There are other things that also smack of betrayal—like those routes where they're supposed to have "fallen in love," yet in the end, Li runs off like a coward, acting as if nothing had happened. If you like, I can tell you which routes those are (with a spoiler warning).

ive read it all, thank you for your time explaining to me the situation and from what game the Lis are, wow its such a terrible LI, some of them just being a j3rk lol. and of course there's someone from Ozmafia, i dropped that game so fast when i know you can do ntr or cheating mid route, anyway really grateful for you sharing information and let me know there are LI like this in otome, im going to avoid those games from now on! 😊🙏
