Do you self-insert while playing otomes?

Do you see yourself as the heroine or a separate character?

It depends on the game. I project myself onto the character in emotional scenes, but sometimes I take a step back and see her as just another character.

I dont self insert and I would really like it if the MC had a bit more personality sometimes.

I try to embody the MC and accept their personality and feelings, but it doesn't always work out. It's easier to do in games with a faceless MC, but I'm not particularly fond of that type of MC.

I don't self insert and this is kinda silly but I mostly see myself as a sort of the other "conscience" that guides the MC when she's offered with options lol

I do try to identify with the protagonist in the game, because I like feeling included in the drama, problems, story, etc. I want to feel like I'm the one experiencing that story and romance, but often the protagonists make inconsistent decisions or choose things I would never do in that situation, and at those moments I disconnect from them and start treating them like other people.

I usually prefer to be separate.View the story from the perspective of the audience.Sometimes, some of the plots are really make me angry, I maybe self-insert.

I don't self insert, but I do empathize with the mc a lot, so I feel a lot the things that happen to mc. I put myself in her place, not precisely self inserting

it depends on the game, if there's high level of customization and the MC feels somewhat close to being a blank slate (like LADS for example) then i'll self-insert so the MC doesn't feel as empty, but i prefer when the MC is her own well-developed complex character and i like to view her as her own individual

I guess I do self-insert but I don't mind just seeing myself as a on looker at times too. I think it really depends on the story when it comes to that honestly. I really like the way Elke explained it and I feel like that myself. It's fun putting myself in that character's shoes and their life.

I usually don't self-insert as the heroine in otome games—I just empathize with them. But sometimes I find myself wishing I were in their shoes, just to have such a happy relationship.

Very, very rarely – hardly ever. It's just that games rarely offer choices I'd actually make. I prefer to see these games as virtual stories where I can influence the plot, rather than as a story about myself. Although I do choose the guys based on my own taste, not the main character's... ;)

Definitely a separate character. I don't self-insert at all, I usually leave the default name as is because I like when the other characters actually say her name out loud, and if I do change it I just use a made up name, never my own

I see myself separate, because there's just some things an MC would say that I would never do, and sometimes I have to roll my eyes at it ahaha.

I really like protagonists with strong, distinct personalities. Sometimes I also project myself onto them a bit, so for me it's kind of a mixed feeling, I can't really separate the two that clearly.

I mean, it's a bit of both. Majority of the time I will view myself as seperate from her. But onze the romantic moments kick in I tend to self insert haha

When I'm playing games, I really get into the heroine's mindset... I become a high school girl, a police officer, and even a saint!

I'm not self-inserter, but I would like to see more strong heroines, so I can see story from heroine's point of view ( ◠‿◠ )

When I can sympathize with the heroine's thoughts and feelings, I project myself onto her. When I cannot, I view her as a separate character.

I always end up reading their stories like it's just a story, you know? For some reason, I just can't really relate to it personally."

It depends. If MC has at least something in her, more than cupboard silhouette - than no. She has herself.)

Separate complete if the character has their own personality, image and goals etc. Though if the game gives me full control and the characters personality depends on my choices I will associate an OC with them in a sense as I never really put myself into the equation.
