Do you prefer a "no personality" MC or a "set personality" one?

I'm a self-insert, but I want to insert myself in a cute and smart character, not in a blank slate. Reading no-personality stories gives too much second-hand embarrasment to handle.

I'm not really a fan of self-insert so I definitely prefer MCs with a set personality, especially when they're a bit bolder.

I like them with a set personality but they are often too bland so its not bad sometimes if I can influence their personality with my choices.

It depends on the storyline :D It kinda fun to self insert in ways that I normally wouldn't, it's like being an actor :))) and thats what make the MC stand out to me. Buttttttt, I usually prefer them with a set personality that is revealed through actions rather than just being told who they are. If the game just force-feeds me their personality traits then nahhhh =))

I love a good mix of it when I'm playing as I like to put myself in the shoes of the mc when I'm playing the otome!

i definitely prefer MCs with a set personality, but i won't avoid a game with a blank slate MC either and i just self insert in those cases

I definitely prefer set personality! I don't self-insert so blank slate MCs do nothing for me honestly... it's just so much more fun to read a heroine who actually has thoughts and reacts to things like a real person would. The dynamic with the LIs also feels way more believable when she has her own personality imo.

I like seeing MCs with fleshed out personalities. Especially since it's not only more enjoyable but it's interesting to see how the MC reacts to and interacts with the LIs.

Definitely a mix. I like to self-insert like many others and prefer a likeable mc.

Having mc do things I wouldn't can sometimes be fun for cringe inducement or secondhand embarrassment.

In a different pivot, having a mc have NO personality feels like the game is missing a vital component.

I like when a game has where your choices shift the mc's personality, personally. ( ꈍᴗꈍ) Let me be flirty to shy ones and shy to flirty ones.

I prefer protagonists with distinct personalities.

Depending on the route, there are moments where the protagonist's personality shines through.

主人公に明確な個性を持たせることで、物語への没入感が高まるように感じます。

Without a distinct personality, it can be a little difficult to understand the protagonist's feelings, and I end up filling in the blanks myself, which makes me worried that my interpretation might be different from what was intended.

I like the set personality of the MC. I enjoy observing her behavior in the story, whether she's shy, clumsy, or brave. If it fits her background and the main storyline, I'm satisfied.

For preference, I prefer no personality, but honestly I don't mind.
This short, free but japanese game I played 仕事終わりにあの店で, your choices determine the character's job/personality.

In otome games, I almost never identify with the heroine, so I prefer it when she has some personality. In cRPGs, on the other hand, I prefer characters with no personality, or with only a general outline of their backstory (like Shepard in Mass Effect).

I prefer a mix of both, although I lean a bit more slightly into the MC with a set personality spectrum since it's interesting to observe the heroine's thoughts and actions

I tend to prefer protagonists with distinct personalities. When a protagonist's emotions, thoughts, and journey of growth are vividly portrayed, I find it easier to grow attached to them and become more deeply immersed in the story. The relationships between the characters also feel more natural and meaningful.

I love it when the MC has a set personality, personally. It gives the game a lot more charm and liveliness to it. Teuta is certainly memorable to me for sure! I was rooting for her in all of the routes (but especially Shu's), her determination was really endearing.
I could see how it could be hard to balance the personality of the MC and the autonomy of player choice when progressing through the story,.

It is not an otome game, but a piece of media that I think balances this well is an interactive fiction novel called "Fallen Hero." The protagonist is snarky and sarcastic, but readers can justify the MC's behavior by choosing if the MC is a softie with a prickly shell or just genuinely a jerk.

For me, I prefer MCs with a set personality because a blank-slate MC feels very bland to me. With a well-defined MC, the interactions with the LIs feel more alive. Plus, I don't really do self-insert

I'm fine with both, it mainly depends on the story. But I have a much higher preference for games with protagonists who have strong, distinct personalities.
