Do you prefer a "no personality" MC or a "set personality" one?

I prefer a mix of both. Enough to self-insert, but also enough for the character to feel fully engaged and moving along the story. If the MCs personality is completely customizable, I find the story falls a little flat, unfortunately :(

Set personality is the best for me. I'm not self insert when it comes to otome games, so i prefer the heroine characters is alive as well like the LI.

I prefer when the MC has personality because it makes the options for how they can behave on a given route feel more real. When they don't have a personality, they feel flat, like a blank slate.

I prefer MCs with set personalities because I don't self-insert, and I like them to feel more real when I read. If the MC is "too bland", it can get pretty frustrating.

I prefer MC with strong personality than MC with blank no personality one.

Because I prefer myself not incorporated myself or self-inserting to MC.

I prefer MC's with "no personality" if that means I can dictate what they are like in game.

I don't really know if this would count as self inserty but I prefer to create a set character in my mind, with a set personality and stuff then play as that character in games.

I don't mind MC's with set personalities but I typically like playing the most wholesome version of a character possible and not all games have MC's with that set persona. I guess the problem is that it would take a lot of writing/coding to accomodate various personality types for an MC tho.

I hate protagonists without personality; it's so irritating to see it! It's good when there's a combination of choices that determine the protagonist's personality and how she'll act, something that guides the story towards a happy, neutral, or bad ending depending on the choices made along the way.

Most otome protag have ''no personality'' I think them having a ''set personality'' would be a nice change

I prefer when they have a personality, puts a little more of character in the game interactions. Besides is fun when I, sometimes, do not agree with the MC actions and can just call they name

Even when I want to self-insert in a game I still prefer the mc to have personality.
In my vision, romance is made by the interaction of 2 individuals, letting one of them out... it's like just putting half of the sauce in the romance scenes.

I prefer recreating again the entire scene with my personal interactions in my head after reading the canon ones with a mc with personality than seeing the LI acting alone. Like this I also enjoy my self insert and the own mc at the same time.

I'm the type of player who fully self-inserts into the MC, but honestly, whether the MC has a defined personality or not doesn't really affect my immersion. 😄 As long as I can understand the MC's thoughts and actions, it's easy for me to get into the story.

I also feel like most otome MCs already have some kind of established personality. I can barely remember playing any with a true "no personality" MC... haha. If anything, I find it easier to immerse myself when the game does a good job showing the MC's thoughts and feelings.

That said, I don't think I've really played a genuine no-personality MC before, so now I'm kind of curious to try one!

I ngl hate mcs witt no personalities ik it's just to make her more relatable to the player but i feel like just playing a puppet who has no personality or point pf view and it piss me off sometimes ( except when the character has a reason to be like that like code realize's mc )…characters with strong personalities are my favourite !! Since even if you don't fully portray urself in them there's moment i found really cool and interesting to see !! ( like birushana's mc )

I prefer a protagonist with a personality that perfectly suits the game being played. For example, some games require a kind, tsundere, yandere, Kuudere, strong, tough, friendly, etc., female protagonist. In my opinion, when a protagonist lacks personality, they lack essence, which can completely ruin a good story, turning them into a mere presence and implying that they could be replaced with anything, even a rock, because they have no impact. On the other hand, with a predefined personality, it's even justified because people fall in love with them.
The only exception to this rule is short otome games.

A set personality, definitely. I don't really self-insert, so I like the MC to feel like an actual character with her own thoughts and motivations. That said, if I really don't click with her personality, it can take away from the whole game for me. In that case, I'd honestly rather have a blank slate than a personality I actively dislike.

I also like to self insert, but I agree with everyone else no personality tends to have weaker engagement or relationship with MLs. So I'm ok with set personality as long as it's not too wild or extreme.

I prefer a set personality. I don't really self insert, so I like when the MC has their own character. I don't mind the quieter ones, but it's always nice to see a more assertive MC too.

I love to see the MC have their own personality, not just like a empty jar characters 😵‍💫 and my absolute favorite type of personality a MC could have it's simply the one which not being overly too naiveee

I like a MC with a set personality more. The story and relationships between the MC and other characters get better if the MC has a personality. I also prefer to imagine myself in the shoes of the MC and I find that more easy if I can imagine what she is feeling and thinking at the moment.

i personally prefer a "set personality" mc. i find it much easier to enjoy the story when she has her own voice and goals. a blank slate can be nice for self-inserting, but it often makes the main character feel a bit boring or reactive. when she has a defined personality, her interactions with the love interests feel way more meaningful.

I like when the MC has a set personality more! It's interesting to see how the MC reacts to things throughout the story, and it's fun to see how they'd banter with other characters. I think blank personalities only work for me when you're given enough options to develop your MC more as you play, like how Our Life or text-based IFs do it.

Set personality only for me. I feel that mcs with no personality bring the game down as a whole: theres no particular romantic chemistry to get attached to if the LI is basically making out with a cardboard cutout.

I don't think i've ever seen a "no personality" MC have any particular chemistry with the LI in each route.

An MC with a personality and complex backstory is interesting as a standalone character as well- which really, for me, makes a game great.

I don't mind an MC with a shifting personality from route-to-route, though I think it necessitates a longer route to let her personality really flourish . . . .
