It's hard to tell without some pictures, but we can try...

Sam would suggest references from other works.

AG might suggest the book he was mentioning earlier.

I would suggest... draw them as 'sticks' first. The start to draw around them with 'flesh'/'skin'. Use your hands as a reference.

In the end I always hide the hands behind something...

Hmm hands... that annoying thing XD Since ojou sama already said find references and see if you like how the other people drew it i guess ill just say practice the hands tons~

I was about to suggest using your owns hands as a reference but I was already beaten to it.
The other way would be to get one of those wooden adjustable hands so you can play around with them and adjust to whatever you want them to hold.

Looking at your hands, doll's hands, figurines, or those around you if they are willing to pose may help you.
