I am sorry, but why bl is allowed, but yuri not? Since otome is games aimed at a female audience, i would think yuri games should be allowed too? I mean otome definition says An otome game (乙女ゲーム otome gēmu?, literally "girl game") is a story based video game that is targeted towards the female market. Generally one of the goals, besides the main plot goal, is to develop a romantic relationship between the female player character and one of several male, or occasionally female characters. I don't want to offend anyone, but i am just a little curious, about this.
(First off, the following is based on my personal opinion and assumptions. I cannot guarantee that my statement is 100% correct, so by all means, feel free to correct me if you spot a mistake in my interpretation.)
Technically speaking, you're right. Otome games are targeted towards maidens/otome, so basically it doesn't matter whether it's a BxB, GxB or a GxG romance. I would even go as far and say a visual novel without any romanceable options could still count as an otome game (although imho it's more a regular VN) as long as it is clearly written with a female audience in mind.
Imagine a visual novel where the is a story about a young girl growing up and trying to find her place in society (y'know, the usual "you are a girl, so you should behave like one. Be sweet, be gentle, be kind and let the man handle things" versus "a strong woman doesn't need a man, she can and should be independent and show the world who's boss" dilemma that can be found in the Western media quite often in the past years). Instead of romance and Mr(s) Perfect, we get a lot friendship with both genders. At first it appears to belong to the general VN genre, yet it deals too much and moreover too realistically with a girl's everyday problems to be targeted towards a male audience. Bonus points if the art isn't all "moe-ish" or full of bishies, although that's not necessary.
But here's the thing: In the Japanese market, shoujo-ai and yuri games are mainly written with a male audience in mind. Especially in yuri games you will see tons of H scenes with little plot. Just like shounen-ai and yaoi games are (mainly) made for women to enjoy, shoujo-ai and yuri visual novels are "for guys" (nobody is going tp stop you from playing one though). That being said, the same can't be said about the English (indie) VN market. From what I've seen so far, most OEVNs with GxG options are targeted towards a female audience (and sometimes, it's meant for everyone to play). Maybe the difference between the two markets is a cultural thing?
Long story short: It's all about for whom the visual novel is intended to read. Just like there can be a shoujo-ai/yuri game for women, there can also be a shounen-ai/yaoi one for men. (However it is extremely difficult to find a VN with this criteria in the Japanese game genre, you'll be more lucky in the OEVN section.)
As for the requested game: In my opinion, it leans towards the female/general audience rather than the male one. So what if the protagonist is a lesbian? This doesn't seem like one of those H games with overly cute girls getting it on with each other that you see in the Hentai section. Making the request here or in the Misc section seems appropriate to me.
But in the end, the admins decide what is wrong and what is right here so maybe what I've written was a complete waste of time. lol
