About the Amazon.jp thing: I believe I once read somewhere that they don't(/can't) ship video games outside of Japan due to the age rating(?? is that what you call it?). Like, in Germany we have PEGI 3+, 7+, 12+, 16+ and 18+; in Japan they have CERO A, B, C, D and Z. While you might think "what's the big deal, isn't CERO C the same as PEGI 12+?", that's unfortunately not true: titles rated with CERO C are for gamers of the age 15+.
Howeverrrrrr, you can order PC games just fine! ...as long as they are not R18, that is.
I hope this clears things up a little. :)

CDJapan's point system is great! For each order you get points in worth of 3% (1% for books IIRC?) of the item price (w/o shipping) PLUS you get an extra 300/500/600 points for spending more than 5000/10,000/20,000 yen (again, w/o shipping). You get also get 300 points at the beginning of your birthday month. 1 point equals 1 yen, so like faery76 said it's possible to pay the shipping fees (or even the items themselves) with the points you earned.
Every now and then they also have special offers going on in which you can gain more points per purchase. Sometimes, there are sales as well making lots of things cheaper (I haven't seen many otome games being on sale yet, however I once did see the price for the limited editions of the TYB game series being dropped by, idk, 60%?).
As faery76 has already stated, CDJapan also has some exclusive tokutens (similar to Stellaworth and Animate, although not half as "fancy").
Another good thing about CDJ is that if there is only a limited amount of an item, it will tell you exactly how many copies are left.
Oh yeah, and unlike many other shops, CDJ actually lets you cancel your order as long as it hasn't been shipped!
If you're using Paypal as a payment method, you'll have to pay for everything in advance (of course you'll get a full refund in case of cancellation). If you're paying with your credit card, you won't be charged until they've shipped the item.
There is also the option to make a special request for items you can't find but want desperately. However, personally, I can't recommend it because it rather expensive. Take Hana Awase -Mizuchi Hen- as an example (because for some reason they have it as a Special Request item and as a normal item): The non-special request "edition" costs only 1400 yen which is the original price. The special request "edition" on the other hand costs 3370 yen. Like, wow, that's more than double the price! (also, you can only use EMS for special request items, and special requests cannot be cancelled.)
You won't encounter such prices when making requests for books, though (they have a special request site for books only). So if you're looking for a specific artbook, anthology or something else and can't find it, go request it on CDJ. Up until now they've granted all my book requests. (And unlike special requests, you won't have to buy it just because you request it. A few working days after you make your request, they'll simply mail you a link to said books, and from there you are free to ignore it or order it like any other item on their site.)

Buuuuut unfortunately, there are some not so good things about CDJ:
For one thing, the shipping is being calculated beforehand, and sometimes it's not really accurate. Like, I'm pretty sure that the Crystal Edition of IA/VT -COLORFUL- does not weigh mere 198g. That unfortunately also means that they might give you a heavier weight, thus overcharging the shipping price.
The other downside is they do not offer PC games at all. (Hana Awase is an exception because it's listed under the book section) If you are looking for PC games, I'd recommend AmiAmi.

tl;dr: let's sum it up:
Pro:

• great point system
• occassionally special offers and sales
• shop exclusive tokuten
• counter of how many copies are left (if there is no counter that means that there are still many copies in-stock)
• lets you cancel your order
• offers a special request service (although it's pricey)
• offers a book request service (which is completely free of charge)

Contra:

• sometimes questionable weight calculation --> higher shipping
• no PC games

I actually wanted to write something about other online shops such as AmiAmi as well, but you've only asked about CDJ and that aside, I think I've written enough for now. ;)
If you have any questions or are confused by some of my statements (English isn't my first language so my wording might be weird), feel free to ask! :)

if you guys are interested in importing games from Japan, please read this page from Otome Jikan and this guide from breadmasterlee.

as for me, I don't bother in getting tokutens since i'm a cheapsake. I usually get regular editions from amiami and occasionally I get preorder bonus items (usually a drama cd but I srsly can live without them).
If u do want to get exclusive items from shops like Stellaworth, you need to use a proxy buyer or a forwarding service. Again, this means extra fees.

The two links that [MENTION=8228]310hajime[/MENTION] has provided give a good overview over the available shops and their services.

But they are rather short (and Hinano's guide is kinda biased, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but you might get the wrong impression of it before trying it out yourself imo?) so like you requested, I'll write down my experience on some online shops.

Let's start with AmiAmi:
One thing that differs AmiAmi from many other shops is that it offers discounts on most of their products, pre-order items and already released ones alike. For (otome) games, they usually offer four different sets: the normal edition, the limited edition (assuming there is one), the normal edition with their exclusive tokuten (which is often a bookstore card), and the limited edition with their own exclusive tokuten. (On a side note: Usually, the version with the shop exclusive tokuten aren't at a discount.)
Now, unlike CDJ, AmiAmi doesn't have a counter which lets you know how many copies are left. Add the fact that the price is lower than most other shops, you can already guess that things are sold out fast. Like, hella fast. So if you plan on buying a certain game, you better order it asap.
You don't have the money to pay for it when you place the order? No problem, AmiAmi won't send you an invoice until the item has been released and is ready to ship, anyway! Just make sure that you've saved enough money by the time the item comes out so you can definitely pay your bill, because AmiAmi doesn't let you cancel your order. ... Or at least, you're not allowed/supposed to. However, you can simply not pay for it and wait for the end of the deadline. I wouldn't recommend doing this, though, unless you absolutely can't avoid it, because AmiAmi explicitly stated that they do not accept cancellation and upon repeated offense, they WILL ban your account. (Truth to be told, over the past three years, I've not paid for several orders, and a few months ago - after ignoring yet another invoice - I received a warning mail from them which says that they are well aware of my actions and if it were to happen again, I will be banned for good.)
Since I have some, uh, "experience" regarding this issue, lemme explain what exactly happens: From the day you receive the invoice, you have exactly one week to pay for your order. But even if you don't pay and exceed the deadline, the order won't suddenly disappear from your order history on the 8th day. In fact, you can still pay for it! That is, under the condition that none of your ordered items is suddenly bought by someone else. You see, once the invoice is past due, the items will be listed as "available" again in the shop and people are free to order "your item".
Which leads me to my next point: Sold out-items. It's frustrating to check out a game just to see that it's already out of stock (despite the release date being a couple of months away), but you might be lucky enough to see it being sold again, approx. one week after its release date. But don't be mistaken, they did not restock the game; what you see there is the left-over copy that someone else ordered but didn't pay for. Of course it is never guarantueed that someone changs their mind and ends up "cancelling" their order - and even if they did there most likely only one, maybe two copies available, meaning that you have to be lucky and fast or it will be sold to someone else.
While they don't allow you to cancel your order, they do let you rearrange it freely. If you have two different orders of which the items will be released in the same month, you can simply combine them to save shipping or to delay the invoice (assuming that order A will be ready at the beginning of the month and order B at the end). This also works the other way around, meaning you can also split up an order in case you want one of the items asap or if you want to ship part of the order to a different address. You can combine orders on your own, but to split an order up you have to send them a mail and specify which item should be shipped separately. Please note that you can only combine items in one month, in other words it's not possible to have a game that is released in April to be shipped with a game whose release date is in May.
Once a game (or book) is out of stock on AmiAmi, you'll never get the chance to order it again (unless the above mentioned case occurs), however they seem to occasionally restock and backorder other merch like rubber straps, OCFs, CDs, etc.
AmiAmi also sells PC and R18 games. You won't find the adult otome games under the "bishounen" section (yeah, that's where they keep our otome stuff 8D); to find them you have to go to the Age Restriced section directly and confirm that you are old enough to view (and buy) those things. Once there, you will find a sub catagory called "otome/BL(for Ladies)". In order to buy R18 goods you need a credit card, they won't accept Paypal in this case.
While I said they offered PC games, I have to add that their assortment is rather... meager. For example, they only have Butterfly Lip, but not Gloss and Rouge; and they don't sell any Double Score games at all.
As for the shipping: You unfortunately won't know how much it will cost until the items have arrived at their warehouse and they've weighed your package (at least it means that you won't see an overcharged shipping fee). But it's not all too difficult to calculate your shipping yourself, especially if you are ordering only one game. AmiAmi has provided us a chart with the shipping rates here. Now let's assume you buy two games and a set of OCF. The limited edition of a PSP game weighs roughly 400-500g (correct me if I'm wrong; this is only my personal assessment), the normal edition probably around 200g(??), and the OCF set 600g. The total weight is 1200-1300g, although to be on the safe side I'd add 200g more. After all, this is only our own calculation, and it's better to expect a higher shipping price than one too low, right? Either way, now you just take a look at the above linked chart and you can guess how much shipping will be. (you can try to rely on CDJ for the items' weight but like I mentioned in my previous post, it's not 100% trustworthy). Most limited edition of a PSP game have the same weight, but there are exceptions (like Seishun Hajimemashita!... its package was almost twice as big as a regular LE package _(:3 」∠)_) so instead of relying too much on your own calculation it's better to view it as some sort of guideline.
Another thing about their shipping is that you have to choose a shipping method when you place your order, but after you received your invoice, you are free to change it (plus, after receiving the invoice, you will see how much shipping is for the other options). But even so, it's probably better to pick your prefered method right from the beginning, because once you make a change, you'll have to wait for them to send you a new invoice which can take from a couple of hours to two days (if you choose a different shipping method on a Saturday after their working hours). Be careful when ordering large things like a B2 tapestry, or a B2 calendar: The only available shipping method for these items due to their size is EMS!
Like CDJ, AmiAmi also has a point system, but to be honest, it's not worth talking about. You only receive points in worth of 1% of the item price, and there are no special offers where you can earn some extra points. (I've been shopping there for a few years now, yet I only have 1637 points orz) The only good thing about their point system is that the points are valid for one year (have CDJ as a comparison: depending on the point type, you only have 90 days to use your points, else they'll become useless) the points' expiration date gets renewed with each purchase.
The last point I'm going to cover is something I've only read about on AmiAmi, but I've never experienced it myself (nor did any of my friends, as far as I know): (pre-order) tokuten. According to AmiAmi, due to the small quantity produced (by the makers themselves, not by AmiAmi), there is a slim chance of them not having enough (pre-order) tokuten for all the buyers. Should such a case occur, they will apparently give out the tokuten on a first come, first served basis; this warning is written under all items that comes with a tokuten of any sort and/or is a First Press Limited edition. Like I said, that never happened to me (although I have to admit that out of fear of not receiving my tokutens, I always paid as soon as I received the invoice) and I think it happens only in very, verrryyyy few cases, and they've just written the warning just in case.

tl;dr:
Pro:

• shop exclusive tokuten
• discount on many items, all the time
• can combine and split up orders as will (as long as all items are released in the same month)
• occasionally restocks merch (e.g. cleaner cloths, mugs, rubber straps, etc)
• PC and R18 games
• accurate shipping calculation
• changeable shipping calculation
• won't charge you until the items are released

Contra:

• sells out ridiculously fast (especially games)
• doesn't allow cancellation
• might not receive (pre-order) tokuten [not confirmed]

PHEW. For some reason, this post is even longer than my CDJ one. Then again, I feel like I gave more examples here and often got slightly off-track.

EDIT:
This might or might not be of importance for first time-buyers: When you place your order and get the confirmation mail from AmiAmi and everything, it means that you will get your ordered items. Don't be confused when you come back to the item later and see that it has been marked as "Sold Out"; that simply means that they can't accept further orders. Since you have already successfully (pre-)claimed a copy, you have nothing to worry about (unless it's a tentative pre-order, but even then it's unlikely).
I have some friends who were confused and worried during their first purchase so I thought I'd better mention it here. :)

Unfortunately, I haven't made any direct purchases from either shop because both require a credit card which I sadly don't have. Buuuut since I have a friend who is placing orders on AmazonJP in my place, I can at least tell you a little something about the latter, no worries!

I assume that you are talking about the cute Hana Awase pass case that comes with the newes B's-LOG (the one that was released last week), right? If yes, then I can confirm that AmazonJP will send you the tokuten as well. The B's-LOG always comes with its regular tokuten, no matter where you order it from. However, please be aware that the B's LOG sometimes also have an extra tokuten which you can only get when you buy it from Animate (e.g. the Hana Awase card stickers)! Just take a look at the B's-LOG's official website; if it says sometime like "アニメイト限定セット" (like it does just above the HA sticker image) it's a Animate exclusive thing.
To make things even more easy: Just take a look at the B's-LOG cover. A picture of the pass case is even printed on there meaning it is part the magazine as a whole.
Ever since AmazonJP has renewed their international shipping rates, shipping has become a lot cheaper (at least compared to before). The B's-LOG is quite heavy though so you might want to be careful anyway when ordering more than one magazine, just sayin'. Oh yeah, and AmazonJP is incredibly fast! I can't say for sure that this applies to every other country, but it only takes about 2 days - 3 at most - for an AmazonJP package to arrive here in Germany. As a comparison: Even when I choose EMS shipping, the supposely fastest international shipping that most Japanese shops offer, it takes around 4-10 days to arrive (which is mainly thanks to the German custom working so slow thoroughly, pfft).

I can understand your sentiment about no wanting to buy used goods, but sometimes I just really, really wanted a specific item that I was willing to purchase it anyway, and I gotta say: All the "used stuff" I've bought so far is virtually new. None of the CDs, doujinshis or game have noticeable dents, scratches or the likes, and of course it all works perfectly fine. I guess Japanese people take really good care of the things? (or maybe they only sell goods that are as good as new)
Then again, I rarely buy used things and the few purchases I've made so far are probably not enough to say that all second hand articles are always in a almost perfect condition. ^^; But sometimes that is the only way to get your hands on something, especially on older stuff. So if the price is low enough, and it's something you've been looking for, why not give it a try? I'm pretty sure they won't sell stuff that is badly damaged or doesn't work at all.

I place most of my pre-orders shipped to the U.S. through:

-- AmiAmi (http://www.amiami.com/) with EMS shipping. Most of my pre-orders come with tokutens.
-- Amazon JP, shipped via proxy Tenso (http://www.tenso.com/en/). Most of my pre-orders do not come with tokutens. Also, I use Amazon JP if I can't find the game at AmiAmi or PC 18+ games.

Since Tenso is a proxy (a presence in Japan), I can pay via my US credit card for the game to Amazon JP, shipped to Tenso, pay Tenso to ship the game to me. With Amazon JP, as long as the game is not being shipped outside of Japan, they don't care who's credit card with billing address (even US) is being used. Strange but I've been doing this for some time now.

Yes, Tenso the proxy I use is based in Tokyo, Japan. So, the shipping cost from Amazon JP to Tenso is very minimal under $10...where it gets expensive is Tenso they charge for shipping and service fee.

Sorry, don't know about unavailable items from Amazon JP.

I'm using several proxies to buy stuff from Japan. :)
For regular stuff I'm using FromJapan, when buying doujinshis I ask my friend to use a forwarding service for me, and when I am interested in linked/"complete set" tokuten (y'know, those tokuten that you can only get when you buy the entire drama CD/game series from one shop with one single account) I usually make use of the Direct Order Service some people on Livejournal offer.
Yes, proxy fees can be hella expensive (I'm not even talking about the domestic + international shipping because those are a joke compared to the commission fees they charge orz) but hey, what can I say? I am just extremely devoted to otome games and the likes, I literally spend all my money on them. ヾ(:3ﾉｼヾ)ﾉｼ

Don't worry, the PSV isn't region-locked. You can buy your console from wherever and play Japanese games just fine (just like the PSP). :) I can personally confirm that: I own a Japanese PSV as well as games from different regions (Europe, the US and Japan), and everything works perfectly fine!

I stopped buying Bs-Log and DG magazine every month...mostly because I've ran out of room on my bookshelf. :( So, the 20-minute drive to Japantown is whenever I need food at the Japanese grocery store, then make a stop in the bookstore.

I know what you mean about receiving a package with the games. For me, it starts when I get shipping confirmation...just the single email is enough to start looking forward to getting the package along with the anticipation and excitement until I open the box. It is a great feeling.

One thing I wanted to mention about your pros/cons with AmiAmi. With my orders I noticed AmiAmi puts a hold of the amount due, but doesn't actual charge for it until they think I'll get the package. For example:
Shipping notification: 3/25/14 (EMS shipping)
Bank account: 3/31/14 Pending $xx.xx

Granted the package may be held in customs until 3/30/14, not delivered to me until 4/1/14...but I'm not charged until their anticipated delivery date. Maybe it's different for everyone...I don't know.

Don't worry, the PSV isn't region-locked. You can buy your console from wherever and play Japanese games just fine (just like the PSP). :) I can personally confirm that: I own a Japanese PSV as well as games from different regions (Europe, the US and Japan), and everything works perfectly fine!

You can download psp games from the store on your ps vita . But you have to be aware of 2 things :

1 / All the psp games are not available from the store
2 / If the cartridges are not region locked, the store is. You can by pass this but the process is a real pain ( need to format everything each time you switch the store ) and it is not possible to buy on Japanese or Europe or US store unless your credit card is from that country ( only way to by pass this is to buy pre paid card for a store )

I have a jp psn and everything, the prob is that I can't download a game on my hacked psp, so i wanna download it on vita
i tried to install the game on an ofw 6.60 psp but no change, an error message appeared as always

I am thinking that maybe, i have to have the umd in while installing the additional scenario...

I think this probably will happen but it depends on the game developers to make the game available, not Sony.

Not sure if you're interested in Quinrose games, but QR is planning to port some of their psp titles to PSN http://quinrose.com/game0/download.html

With QR and Otomate making the move, I'm sure the other companies will follow suit.

This is sad news for me ,my country does not have a option to pay or buy online. And otome games never come here. I could buy a ps vita we have that but i can't buy games for it. So i will stay with pc and psp games.
