Which indie otome did you have no expectations for, but it pleasantly surprised you—and what exactly impressed you about it (graphics, story, characters)? I'd like to find some interesting recommendations.

For me, it's Don't eat the cashier! The visuals and characters are soooo good!

This is an old game I don't hear people talk about much anymore but The Second Reproduction. It's a Japanese indie with an English fan patch.

The protagonist is a sword fighting princess! Her main love interests are her bodyguard knight (very loyal puppy personality) and a foreign demon lord (very standoffish cat personality). I think the voice actors do a good job but they're obviously using cheap mics which I honestly just find endearing.. it feels more.. low-key? real? Anyway two thumbs up (y)(y)

There is one russian indie otome game "Wind & Flame". I am just in love with all characters, story, visuals! Played this game for 5 times.

Have you tried playing Queen of Darkness from the same developer? I would like to try it out, but don't know if it is as good as The Second Reproduction

I really recommend Backstage Pass! I can't believe it's a decade old now. You play through a year in the life of a college student intertwined with Hollywood falling in love with cute guys (and one cute girl iirc). It's a stat rasier a-la Tokimeki Memorial as opposed to a straight visual novel, but the story is still really great and it has good replayability. You can find it up on steam.

A fellow reader 🥹 The only drawback is the length of this game, I'd read 10 more hours of content with these characters 😍

Recently been pleasantly surprised by Sigillvm: Resonance. Story was very hard to read at first, as authors used many made up words and explaned them with even more made up words. But underneath all that there was a meticulous world-building with beautiful characters and a compelling story. Patiently waiting for more games in this universe or a wedding DLC at least

Yes! Actually I liked it even better! But there's no English patch so I decided to recommend The Second Reproduction.

If you are ok with Japanese, Risty is a one-of-a-kind (evil but charming) protagonist. Amazing. But Queen of Darkness is also hard to recommend because
There is an unavoidable rape scene in the prologue. Very hard to recommend to anybody. :o_O: She can get her revenge later, depending on your choices, if that helps??

I loved the atmosphere and language deciphering gameplay of Homicipher! It was such a unique experience. It's so unfortunate that it's popularity brought about the wrong kind of audience and attention to the developer, to the point they had to step back and will likely not publish new games nor update their other project.
