What's your favorite story trope in otome games?

I love it when an otome game breaks the 4th wall and the characters become aware they're in a game. Cheritz games are a good example of this (Mystic Messenger & Nameless).

Similarly, I like it when a specific LI retains the memory of past playthroughs and falling in love with you in his own route, only to be forced to stand by and watch you choose the other guys in every reset (Amnesia: Memories, Mystic Messenger, Nameless). Also basically Sans in Undertale lol.

I guess this a subset of enemies to lovers, but it's fun when the guy needs to secretly kill you but then rOmANce happens...

I think my favorite narrative device is definitely time travel. 😂 I love stories where the past and future are connected somehow, especially when there are time loops or you have to figure out how to change something that already happened.

I also really love plot twists, secret identities, and mysteries that are gradually revealed. I love when you think you understand what's happening at first, but then you discover that things weren't exactly what they seemed. And if there were little clues or bits of foreshadowing that I didn't notice at first, even better. 😭

I'm also a big fan of enemies to lovers, but for a different reason. I like watching the relationship develop slowly. If the characters fall for each other immediately, I usually don't get as invested.

An unhinged psycho trans x just a normal person doing their mundane life.

(Yes, i'll be locking myself in an asylum soon :'))

I like the cliché of developing from childhood friends into lovers. It's nice to realize your feelings for each other, but also to hesitate about confessing, worried that the relationship you've built over time might fall apart!

MC getting hunted by the NPC cause she a witch thank to Psychedelica of the Ashen Hawk I got addicted to witch trope

I also like alternate worlds; to this day, I'm still very fond of Fushigi Yuugi. I've also developed a certain fondness for time loops.

I lovee the classic enemies to lovers trope and roommates to lovers 🫪 ppl might call me boring for this but i genuinely just like it so much 😭❤️
The classics are classics for a reason. I'm obsessed with both tropes too, don't worry, you've got tons of fellow fans here 😭

I don't know what its called, but "devoted to the MC that ended up being a tragedy" is something that hurts me every time😭So far I only know
Wizard
and
Lucien
who follows this trope but those two are my absolute favs aaaa

I like men who are full of danger, and then the female protagonist embarks on a difficult journey to win the man's heart. For example, there are various dangers that could lead to death at any time or thrilling plotlines. Gradually, the male lead falls in love with the female lead amidst increasing difficulties.

I like enemies to lover, childhood friends, and cross dressing. To me it is the chemistry that comes with enemies to lover, especially when both mutually understands each other. The childhood friend troupe is for the butterfly feeling I get when the guy friend realizes that he likes the girl friend. Cross dressing troupes can be funny too, especially when the guy thinks he likes another man, but turns out the man was a woman all along.

time reversal i guess? i love it when they start to lose their minds .. i can feel the despair...hehe
