What's your favorite story trope in otome games?

I love it when an otome game breaks the 4th wall and the characters become aware they're in a game. Cheritz games are a good example of this (Mystic Messenger & Nameless).

Similarly, I like it when a specific LI retains the memory of past playthroughs and falling in love with you in his own route, only to be forced to stand by and watch you choose the other guys in every reset (Amnesia: Memories, Mystic Messenger, Nameless). Also basically Sans in Undertale lol.

I think my favorite narrative device is definitely time travel. 😂 I love stories where the past and future are connected somehow, especially when there are time loops or you have to figure out how to change something that already happened.

I also really love plot twists, secret identities, and mysteries that are gradually revealed. I love when you think you understand what's happening at first, but then you discover that things weren't exactly what they seemed. And if there were little clues or bits of foreshadowing that I didn't notice at first, even better. 😭

I'm also a big fan of enemies to lovers, but for a different reason. I like watching the relationship develop slowly. If the characters fall for each other immediately, I usually don't get as invested.

Mutual unrequited love, jealousy, and time-loop tropes. Plus, it's not just romance—having rich, non-romantic platonic bonds makes the whole game world feel so much more alive.

I like the cliché of developing from childhood friends into lovers. It's nice to realize your feelings for each other, but also to hesitate about confessing, worried that the relationship you've built over time might fall apart!
