What will you choose: 2D or 3D graphics in otome?

3D is gorgeous 2D is classic and less expensive to produce. Not to mention easier to run. I do think 3D otome games are really pretty though 😭but I think I prefer 2D because they're less janky. I've played LADS on 3 different devices, including an emulator. All of the devices exceeded the specifications needed for the game but it'd still lag and glitch out from time to time. 🥲

this is actually such an interesting question..

IMO i say 2D, since for me, thats how i best draw the line at fiction/real guys.

I remember when i first saw LADS, i thought it was really weird 😭 i ended up playing it and liking it somewhat, but i think it being 3D coupled with the intensity of the story and relationships (to the point thats not usually seen in otome), I was reluctant to keep playing and ended up dropping it after i got through all the chapters at the time.

That being said, i do like the modern-ness its brought to casual otome, like the period tracker. I think it makes for a nice woman-centered way of playing that you dont see anywhere else. i personally just get a bit uncomfortable with my men being so HD, since seeing their pores makes me realize just how 'perfect' theyre supposed to be (at least visually. ly caleb ). i do think they have a higher chance of attracting a more widespread crowd, too, as weve seen with LADS! ofc that can also bring ppl who are less familiar with otome to view these characters with less of a 'fictional' lens, but over all i dont think that attention is too detrimental?

and if im being honest, i dont hate 3D at all. Id even say i wish 3D otome were MORE risqué lol, i think a hentai 3D otome could be a fun experiment. or even a non-mobile 3D otome!

i just find 3D a little too jarring at times when it does get intense, so i stick to my pore-less anime men 🫠

im curious if u guys think the same tho

I prefer 2D to 3D, too. I'm still not used to 3D yet. I also prefer 2D illustrations because they tend to better showcase the artist's unique style.
wait i love this take
its true that (realistic) 3D has to look a certain way to not be too uncanny, so 2D has more room for creative liberties as far as style goes !!!

CGs looks pettier in 2D and 2D offers the freedom to creare characters with a more unique desing. In 3D the characters need look somewhat human to work, 3D is boring and a hit or miss, personally i find Caleb from LADS so ugly

3d can be realistic and if you can get their model, you can make them dance on mmd (or more *cough*), but i think the realism sometimes can ruin it, making it looks more like a template of same face syndrome (see a few 3d ai companion otome from cn and i think most of their face looks the same or falls into uncanny valley)

2d is safe and has been a standard for a long time, but it's much more rigid (for me anyway) since i can't create visual fan creation more easily ( i can't draw but i can use mmd)

i think my sweet spot would be like a vtuber meta these days, 2d on daily basis but on special occasion you can get to see their 3d version (or better - get their model) for things that makes having 3d gives you more immersion (like study/work together features etc)

Personally, I prefer 2D graphics when it comes to otome games. I just love that distinct anime-esque aesthetic! I did enjoy the romance content in 3D games like Baldur's Gate 3 and Dragon Age: Origins, so I'm open to 3D as well. However, for traditional otome games centered around novel-style reading and making choices, 2D feels much more fitting for the MC and LIs. It's a bit hard to put into words, but there's a certain charm to it! haha

i personally prefer 2d. they're just so pretty and its what i'm used to! the characters also always look so much more unique and detailed in 2d compared to 3d

I prefer 2D. Maybe it's because I've played traditional otome games for so long so I still like 2D than 3D

I like 2D. I appreciate the movement, but I can't help but see how all the characters' faces and expressions look similar. I feel like 2D offers more ways to express unique expressions and characteristics than 3D.

Personally 2D, I love seeing the different art styles within the 2D genre! And honestly 3D can sometimes look a little strange but games like LADS does it super nice so I don't mind
