what makes you want to play a game?

For me, it's primarily based on whether or not I like the character designs of the LIs. After that, it's the artwork.l If I see that the artwork was one by one of my favorite artists, it really makes me want to play so that I can admire their artwork lol.

The main thing that makes me want to play an otome game is whether the synopsis appeals to my interests.

In my case, it's more a couple of things:

Visuals: Did the visual style catch my eye? Am i gonna be okay watching the art style of this game for as long as it take to complete or half complete it?

Content: How do i feel about the synopsis? (For me, a synopsis is what seals the deal. If the writing is kinda 'off' there, why would i hope it would get better playing the game?) Do the tags put me off? And what about the warnings?

Developers/developer: This is a tricky one. Sometimes i have dig too deep into a game when i see that the team or solo dev making the game is somewhat shady (has scammed in the past, seems like the game would never be completed, has very strong views that clash with my own or their views are crossing the 'fairness' line). That's why i don't always search for the dev or devs, but when something 'explodes' that makes me wanna detach myself from their works.

Looking at my list, i kinda seem like I'm very picky with what i do play XD. But i do wanna put my whole self into a game sooo...judgment comes for all... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm a fan of customization, but since it's hard to find, I usually go for a strong MC instead. While LI looks are great marketing, I'll still drop a game quickly if the story doesn't grab me

Unfortunately, I judge a book by its cover and if I don't like the overall feel of the game and how the LIs look I won't start the game. It's bad habit that I'm trying to get rid of but 9/10 times if I feel like I'll enjoy a game, I end up finishing it all the way through haha

For me, it's the plot, the LI designs, and the reviews. If the plot sounds interesting, or has good LI designs, I'm more likely to try it out. But if say, I read many bad reviews for it, I may end up skipping it. I used to play any otome I could get my hands on, but now that the genre has grown in the West, I'm able to be more picky with what I pick up.

My main attraction used to be art style but over the years it was replaced by plot. Favorite VAs are a plus but the plot remains my first priority.
I also prefer the main character to have a lot of personality to hook me in as that's the character that will be present in every route.

It's an anime called Hakuouki that I watched, and I learned about the game from there. Some of the characters in it make me sad, so I went to play the game.

Honestly, the biggest thing that draws me is the art of the characters and the background. I feel like art can have such a big impact on the story and I can find myself sucked into the game like when the art matches the story say like Amnesia. The art in Amnesia is amazing and fits so well within the interesting story, which is why I always feel like I'm a part of the story myself or the chilling look in Diabolik Lovers!

It's the LIs design for me that attracts me to the games and what type of personalities or tropes they have. Like a tsundere or the stoic who is a sweetheart, the art is another one since having a good art style makes enjoying the world more immersive for me. The next one for me is plot on how interesting the setting is as how well the synopsis gets my interest.

Just like others, i mainly play the game because of the visual, review and the genre. So any one of those can be enough to get me to try a game, it doesn't have to be all three.

I play 7'scarlet because of the genre that gives me the thrill even though the art feels pretty basic to me.

I played 9.r.i.p because of the visual even though the plot story was kinda meh.

As for birushana, i only gave it a shot after reading reviews on reddit, otomekitten, and blerdyotome. I was actually skeptical at first because of historical genre, but their reviews made it sound worth trying.

Etc

To conclude, i'm pretty random when it comes to choosing the games I play 🤷‍♀️

I think both art style and story are really important! Even if the art is beautiful, I tend to lose interest quickly if the story isn't engaging!

1-Characters's look

3-Storyline
4-Music

im mostly drawn to the characters and their personality and voice actors second the story and theme are the biggest deciding factor on how im gonna splurge (get limited ed or on release)

Honestly setting interest me first, the premise of the story. Where is it set, what age range are the characters. Then it's the artwork, I adore more unique art compared to the standard otome look so the more interesting the designs are the more likely I am to pick it up.

Hmm, personally I'm first interested in the plot, then in the LIs, then goes the main heroine and only then the art. I play for the interesting stoty!
