what makes you want to play a game?

Mostly the Art style, length, and completeness of the game. There are so many good VNs and dating Sims out there and when I play a game, most of the time I put in good hours in one sitting so playing demos doesn't do it for me.

If we're talking specifically about otome, I'd say the MC's personality is probably the biggest thing for me. Or if the game has a really good or interesting story, that can definitely make me want to play it too.

character customization is definitely important, but the most important thing for me when deciding what to play is probably the li character designs. if it's not up my alley it puts me off, unless i hear lots of good reviews on the game, then I'll try it out!

First of all, the art style! If I like the art, I'm immediately interested. Visuals are pretty important to me, after all. But if I hear good things about it or someone recommends it, I'll still be interested even if the art style isn't really my thing.

For otomes, art and plot! I feel like the art part is pretty self explanatory, but plot is also pretty important so I know what to expect outside of just falling in love. If it has some exciting plot like murder cases, mysterious disappearances, or even just the heroine crossdressing so dont get caught, it usually means theres more to the story than just the heroine and the love interest getting lovey dovey and there are some stakes on the board to make things exciting. A good enough synopsis can even make me ignore "bad" art.

For other games, genre and gameplay are huge. I like fantasy games and turn based rpgs. Anything as long as theres at least one hot man I can stare at most of the game 🤤

As for visual novels, the biggest reason is definitely the characters. Of course, having a character whose design I love is a huge plus, but one of the best things about visual novels is getting to know the characters through their conversations and interactions, and discovering sides of them that I never expected. I especially love characters who seem sweet and gentle at first, only to reveal a much more possessive side once you get deeper into their route. If there's a character like that, I'd definitely want to play the game and see how that side of them gradually unfolds.

When it comes to games in general, I tend to like games depending on my mood. Most of the time, I really like open-world games that allow me to do quest lines and take my time building stuff (like Palia); other times, if I'm in need of some action, I go for games like from the Persona series or Skyrim. Basically, I rotate between different phases and choose my games based on what phase I'm in 😂

Honestly, it's mostly 'cause I have a lot of free time and I really love games with long story. I enjoy them way more, especially when I can actually play all the way to the end (which I don't do that often 😭)

cute art is what catch my eye first. And, of course, nice character design. I'm also more drawn to a game when the mc have their own sprite, showing their face and voice, and their own name.

The setting and the designs + voices in consolege, If I can be immersed, no matter how simple the story is, I consider it a good experience.

It used to be the art style before I realized that the art doesn't matter. So I now curate what I want to play based off of my preferences in writing and my overall interest in particular genres and tropes.

Since I like to project myself onto the character, I appreciate being able to choose the protagonist; the art and story are important, too.
