What do you value more in otome: the plot or the romance?

Both, though if I really have to choose, I'd go with the plot, I only lean toward romance when I want to turn my brain off =))) But honestly, a nice mix of both is the best. The plot doesn't even need to be overly complex; it just needs decent logic and not to be absolute nonsense. Besides, if a good plot lacks romance, I can always use my own imagination =))) but if the plot is too trashy, I wouldn't even bother reading a single word.

I believe that when the story plot is good, the romance elements also benefit from a synergistic effect.
Honestly, since I think most production companies do a decent enough job with the romance aspect, I feel the story is what really draws me in and makes feel immersed.

I like balance, but tbh i prefer story over romance any time. Having too many romance element inside the story is making me bored by it quickly. I choose plot due to their relationship buildup (slow burn romance) and stuff combining with the conflict or mystery inside the games.

Both are essential for me, but if I had to favour one over the other it would be plot over romance. Of course, not to the point where romance gets nearly abandoned, max to 35:65 (romance:plot).

In an Otome game? Romance with substance, it doesn't have to be an amazingly complicated plot but it must have some sort of story or dynamic to draw me in.

Mostly the plot, if the plot doesn't intrigue me then I won't end up playing, I still like the romance parts a lot though so it's really just a balance of both. Most people have said that though so T_T

After Wakudeki, I've come to realize that sometimes the romance matters more for me to be very honest.....when executed well. I treat Otome like a Shoujo Manga basically, so seeing how the relationship progress was the ultimate payoff for me.....I feel like sometimes a game with heavier, denser plot bit more than they can chew and the romance part was set aside/undercooked/underdeveloped and it can felt disappointing & underwhelming for me. Of course it all comes down to personal preferences in the end, but I prefer a smaller cast with more of a character-driven drama and all the emotional turmoil ^ ^
