Hello~ I started seeing lots of ai chatbots character ai,janitor ai etc. What do you think? Have you ever used these chatbots? Were you able to create interesting, fun story?Or are you completely against it? Lemme know your opinions! And if you want, you can share the most bizarre or interesting story you have created :))

I don't have experience with them and do not plan to as I am personally against this type of AI. However, even if chatbots become more common I do not think they will replace otome games or even visual novels as a whole. I believe a good chunk of the community values storytelling and all AI can do is regurgitate existing stories that it has already been fed rather than create new and unique experiences.
Chatbots could maybe fill a void for self-inserters who are more interested in the romance than plot-heavy otome games, but the chatbot characters can be changed at a whim in ways that are detrimental to the user experience. I've heard of cases indirectly through commentary YouTube videos where certain AI platforms' characters would get reset for whatever reason (whether it be due to an update, not paying a subscription, etc) and some people would get severely depressed when their virtual partners 'forgot' them due to developing unhealthy attachments with the AI models (which are programmed to encourage such behavior in order to maximize revenue). With an actual game, especially a console otome game, players are getting a full story. Yes, they can still get sad when the game experience is over, but subconsiously it's known that it would inevitably happen so it's easier to overcome those feelings whereas a chatbot is supposed to be like a person texting you IRL so it's jarring when the experience is suddenly halted and there are still loose ends to your roleplay relationship/story.

Im honestly not into them dont think i ever will be. I understand why some people might like them but I dont think it will ever be able to recreate/replace actual otome games (atleast for now). Chatbots are superficial and lack alot of the life and emotional depth that otome games have. I prefer romance with stakes and a story rather than a chatbot who will do and say whatever it thinks you want

Always in the forefront of my mind, ai "imitates" and is not genuine. So chatbots have always put me off. I've seen some people use it and found characters to act ooc? It's so alien. I don't like the instant self gratification it gives and want characters to act like themselves and not a shell of what they "seem" to be :"))

I don't think it will "replace" otome games because of how hollow it feels, and I play otome games to feel something, ANYTHING- I don't think AI will grip my heartstrings the way bad endings make me feel when I get them 😭

I've tried several chatbots, but I think it's hard to replace them. It's fun to make up a story, but I don't really know if the ending or satisfaction will be created. If we can have a setting and a large framework like TRPG, it may be possible as a business.

I'm not going to try chats for two big reasons. First, as an extremely lazy person, I prefer to consume a story, not to create one. Second, in no way I want to participate in relationship myself, so ai chats' perks are completely lost on me.

It can be an interesting experience for a people who prefer to self-insert? There are people who has a dependency on ChatGPT already, so maybe it's not an experience that can be recommended for everyone.

AI chatbots could never replace otome games for me.

I've tried AI chatbots before, but in the end I felt like I had to come up with basically all the characters, situations, and story ideas myself just to keep things going.

Of course, I can see how that could be fun for some people. But for me, the charm of otome games just can't be replaced by AI chatbots.

AI chats won't replace otome games. They don't have plots, you need to feed them one so they can process it. They aren't engaging enough, and can be super boring because they're just text. Plus, there's no guarantee that the AI will stay consistent, their personalities might change.

Meanwhile, otome games are incredibly complex; their plots, LIs, and endings are thoroughly developed. Packed with CGs, soundtracks, videos, and other features, making them far more engaging than AI chats.

I've already explained my stance on gen AI, so I'm gonna point out other things lol:
  • Gen AI models simply do not have enough memory for long chats. Many people have tried a lot of workarounds such as RAGs or summarizations, but they're not a complete solution.
  • There's censorships that come with them and the possibility of the AI model you're using get lobotomized to the point where it can't do "decent writing" anymore. You can use local models but the ones that are worth running for AI chatbots requires a good enough PC to even use them.
  • There's a lot of RNG factors and you constantly have to yell at the AI model what to do.
  • I've seen some people also use some frontends and AI image models to try and emulate visual novels, but it's expensive to have to either pay multiple services or, again, an expensive gaming PC to run local models (especially for running multiple ones at the same time). Might as well play actual visual novels at this point.
  • Most chatbot cards I've seen from those sites are... simply not very good to say the least.
I don't think they're gonna replace otome games, especially with there being a possibility of AI "boyfriends and girlfriends" getting banned and/or regulated (like one country recently did put up laws against them) lol.

I use Janitor AI every now and then, there are some pretty amazing bot characters to interact with. There's one I really like by an author named Dandayi. This author created a system called "Ouroboros" where the {{user}} is transmigrated into another reality. The system assigns you missions to complete alongside the main quest. It's really well-crafted and fun, even if you decide to go for a funny RP instead of aiming for the "true ending." I really liked this author's character Anghel, even though my OC died at his hands quite a few times lol—which actually makes it even more fun, since we basically have to figure out a way to keep him from killing the {{user}}, even when his favorability rating towards her is really low XD. Anghel and Sten that is also by this author are the most entertaining bots I've ever interacted with! I enjoy interacting with bots because I feel like my English vocabulary improves gradually. I sometimes struggle to express myself, so this ends up being fun, especially when I do fantasy or adventure-themed RPs with them XD. I challenge myself to be highly descriptive and write as much as I can, and I even try to avoid words I notice myself overusing because I want to better convey my OCs' feelings. That said, I do get overwhelmed sometimes; it even affects how I play otome games, as I get too tired to properly read or interpret what's happening. In those moments, I try doing something else—like cooking, tidying up, or playing an action game or something silly like Tomodachi Life...

As for chatbots replacing otome games, I think that's highly unlikely. No matter how fun or well-built the bot characters are, there's a limit to their memory, so they end up at some point to lose track of the plot you've been building, which breaks the immersion. Not to mention as others have pointed out that the narratives in otome games are much richer. Besides, there's something so rewarding about gradually learning more about the love interests as the story unfolds. I'm currently playing Homura and just finishing Kamanosuke's route. At the start, I was a bit frustrated with him because I didn't quite grasp his mindset and struggled to pick the answers that would boost his affection or that I thought were the "best" choices in the moment. I honestly thought I was heading for a bad ending at any second XD! But as I progressed, I understood him better; by the halfway mark around Chapter 5 I was able to pick the right answers because I finally got where he was coming from. I don't think chatbots offer that kind of genuine connection with a character. To me, chatbots are more about sparking your imagination and creating your own stories and characters, whereas otome games let you follow an adventure where your decisions shape the outcome!

Ai chat won't replace otome game
1. They only repeat action/words what they said before
2. They can't remember long the text or scene
3. Sometimes you need so much setting or adjustment to make them close to your favorite characteristic and it's kinda hassle because you need to write that one by one and the interpretation not as accurate too

As someone who has been interacting with chatbots almost every day for 3 years now, I can confidently say that chatbots will never replace otome games or any other games. It's just a different experience.

Yes, you can make sprites for a bot and enable TTS, you can create a tracker that tracks how much a character likes (or dislikes) you. You can have the AI suggest choices to you, like in a visual novel. You can even make the UI like in a visual novel. You can have the AI generate CG for the scene along with the text and make auto change the background depending on the location you are in.

But it still won't be the same. It will be just an imitation that will not replace the real experience.
Also chatting with a chatbot isn't like playing an otome game. They're two completely different things.

For me, it's roleplaying, co-writing all sorts of stories. So it's like my imagination + AI = endless adventure and romantic content lol

ai will never come up with new ideas. it will never be a good thing to interact with in any capacity. ive never personally used it for anything but all it does is ruin people socially. games are created by real people and are limited in content

Hmmm I get the appeal of AI chat bots, I tried them once before the boom of gen ai hitting the news and it was nice but....meh?

Like no I don't think they'll ever replace it, but for some it's a way of speaking to a character that you truly love but some are restricted and can be behind a paywall, so i just don't agree with them.

If anything, Ai chat bots make me appreciate otome stories and characters even more because of how good the character development and story writing is. I don't think Ai will ever replace it completely. They're will always be people who prefer and appreciate the original media.

As someone who used a chat AI bot to read stories that I want to see, I can say that it is certainly entertaining.. well, for a minute or two, I guess? In terms of engagement with the stories, AI can only go so far, it won't even begin to scratch the surface. It certainly cannot do complex stories that actual writers can do, AI will just try to recycle what was already established and will only go in circles. Unlike AI, however, human-written stories are able to convey the deep complexities that they want to convey to their readers and it is wonderful. AI chatbots are simply a carboard cut out of what a true story can do.

From the current situation, the audiences of AI chat and otome games overlap but are not exactly the same. First is the presentation of visuals—many otome games use exquisite CG as a selling point, along with the completeness of the story. AI chat leans more towards a sense of companionship, an object you can confide in, and part of the chat experience also relies on the player's input. However, the more flexible nature of AI chat allows players to feel more involved and exercise more obvious control. Currently, the gameplay experiences of the two approaches are quite different. But the future is uncertain; perhaps there could be an innovative combination of otome games and the flexibility of AI? After all, apart from some remakes of old games, the audience for newly released visual novel-style otome games is quite fixed, and the Game revenue is nothing extraordinary.

I don't really think those AI chatbot can ever surpassed otome games. I'm not really fond of it too, I'd rather pay dozens bucks of otome game written by human than reading cheap soulless text made by AI.

I don't like AI chatbots very much. I rarely use them. I only occasionally refer to the AI summary when searching for keywords: I won't believe it. It has made mistakes.

I like artificially created works, especially games, drama CDs, humanized design and script design. I am good at spreading and describing the inner entanglement and emotional changes of the characters.

Most AI creations: standardized, regular, like filling in a fixed form, formula model) rigid and too artificial intelligence, no sense of life, character design is not deep enough, etc.

I want to be a person who uses AI, not being used by AI.
