What do you think about faceless MC ?

Normally i don't care, but i fell a little more caring towards a MC that has a face and personality. Mainly because I'm not used to doing self-inserts, and always call them for their name

Not really a fan of faceless MC,
except maybe MC in mystic messenger that is iconic in her own ways.

I like it when MCs have a face because when they don't they look like emotionless dolls , it's disturbing.

I'm fine with them. Maybe because I play old otome games and mobile games too, I do not find them weird.

I dislike it quite a bit. I want the MC to be a fully fleshed character. Even being able to choose their names sits wrong with me, but that's easy to ignore, unlike the faceless thing.

I feel like usually faceless MC's are meant for the players to kind of use their imagination and it represents "us" as the player itself. Personally I like it when they have a face and also a good personality. Sometimes faceless MC's are so bland and boring without any unique characteristics lol

Playing sympathy kiss right now 😭 some of the cgs just don't look right without the eyes

Faceless MC tends to make sense more if the protag is supposed to be self-insert, especially the ones you can name in a few VNs.

If it's something like a fully established character with their own backstory and such, but they're still a faceless MC (or even NPC) then it's pretty weird

I doesn't like because is better with face... ( incluso me recuerdo cuando funaron a una creadora pequeña porque no hizo a un personaje gris, por que no se sentían *identificados* )

It's really tough on the artists. Front-facing CG often ends up looking weird, and I personally don't really like it.

I'm fine either way! While I rarely self-insert, I know people do, and that's great imo. I do prefer MCs with a face and a personality, and sometimes I finish games for the MC alone.

But there are some games I felt where faceless MCs are understandable? When this topic comes up I just remember Akai Suna Ochiru Tsuki. She remains faceless for like most of the game but it was related to the plot so it didn't really seem that they're blantantly telling us to self-insert. Maybe it helped that her cloth was covering her face not really long bangs LOL.

Not for me but I don't mind in some types of games.
Still, when it comes to a romantic game, expression is one of essential things to immerse the game better, espeically when both characters interact to each other. I want to see MC's expression in different scenarios, I guess.

i reallllly love characters whose faces are hidden behind a mask or a cloth or a sheet of paper! if i remember correctly, sekimori gami's mc was also like that?

Yes it was! I haven't heard that game in a long time tbh. I really love the mask of the MC that I prefer the standard version rather than Sakurabito haha (≧◡≦) ♡

Personally, I don't care about that detail. I understand that by making her without her eyes they want to imply that it's us, but if I had the choice, I'd prefer to see her with her eyes. When I was able to play Starry Sky After Spring, I could choose that detail, so I selected to have them to give more atmosphere and expression when there were CG cutscenes.

i maybe played only one with a faceless MC but I prefer them with a face anyway

I dont mind much, honestly having no eyes is one thing but if the MC looks like a grey, bald mannequin, please just keep them out of the CGs! =)) It actually gets kind of creepy sometimes

Not a fan, self-inserts aren't my thing so I prefer MCs with a face and a personality. Makes a story unique imo

These days, it's rare to find otome games where the protagonist's face isn't shown at all. Protagonists whose faces aren't visible have become quite rare, so I hope games like that don't disappear and continue to be made.
Depicting interactions between the protagonist and their love interests without showing the protagonist's face really puts the illustrator's skill to the test.

So what do you think about faceless MC on CG? Do you like , dislike or don't care?
I never liked faceless MC without eyes.
But recently i saw many vn have grey , bald mc and some don't have even eyes, nose, lips .
It ruins the atmosphere for me. Looks scary and fun sometimes.
A romantic moment turns into a comedy. LI hugs and kiss mannequin .
having their face partially hidden like tsukiko from starry sky or the heroine from mysme is one thing but bald and grey would really make me laugh ngl
Oddly enough, I'm much more tolerant of gray, bald MCs in indie otomes than I am of faceless MCs in Japanese otomes.........
I personally dislike them as I much prefer MCs with strong personalities and voiced, I never really care about self-insert or anything, so faceless ones are useless to me as it doesn't help with the immersion atall, quite the opposite actually, especially ones that are bald and grey, they just look funny and out of place lol.

So do we have some good ideas as for why they use the grey, bald mannequin as the MC in otoges? I don't believe this is really all that common for visual novels in general; it's not something you would see in say a galge for example.

i dont get how faceless helps with self inserting anyway. without eyes is fine but any less facial features gets into creepy territory

I don't like it.
I prefer a distinct MC with a name, visual style, and personality.
But I really love Hiyoko Tosaka from Hatoful Boyfriend even if she doesn't have a face because she's so funny and lovable!
In her case, I don't care about the fact that she's faceless.
