What’s the First otome game you have ever played ?

I start with Starry☆Sky in Summer.

Since I don't know your preferences, perhaps you could let us know what kind of otome games you like. As a starter, I highly recommend Starry☆Sky if you enjoy having many types of LIs. They split the main LIs into groups of three per game, so it is not overwhelming. Ayakashi Gohan is also a very wholesome option.

If you prefer focusing on one LI, then I recommend Navigatore of the Ruined World. All of the games I mentioned can be found on Anime-Sharing.

LI stands for Love Interest. This refers to the male lead or a character who has a dedicated story route.
 
I found out about otome games through mobile games specifically the shall we date ones and those gacha mobile games. Looking back they were trashy but a beloved memory of mine was waiting for those daily tickets. At the and I discovered the vn type otome games after researching for complete games without those horrendous system😂


If you are starting newly then otomate games are safe the old ones like amnesia hakuouki are great for starting, plot heavy ones like collar x malice. If you just want something simple and more gag like try dot kareshi

I first started with Code:Realize! The first game specifically, called Code:Realize ~Guardian of Rebirth~. When I was 12, I learned about the game through online spaces but never got the chance to play it until I bought a Nintendo Switch last year.

One term that you might come across is a fan disc. Fan discs are essentially extended content of original otome games. For example, Code:Realize has two fan discs: Code:Realize ~Future Blessings~ and Code:Realize ~Wintertide Blessings~, which are more focused on the romance than on the plot in the original game.

I only got into otome games recently, so my recommendations are limited:
  • The Hakuoki visual novels have been a starting point for many people. It's been praised for also integrating actual Japanese history (specifically during the time of the Shinsengumi).
    • There have been many ports for these games, but I personally played the games on Steam. The common thing to do is select a LI and play his route in Hakuoki: Kyoto Winds and then continue his route in Hakuoki: Edo Blossoms. I heard the Nintendo Switch version combines both games so you don't have to close one game and open the other.
    • If you end up liking this franchise, you're in luck considering the amount of content made from the original visual novel. There's been anime adaptations, a fan disc where the Shinsengumi captains are put into a modern school era, and I believe there's an upcoming fan disc that shows more content between Kyoto Winds and Edo Blossoms.
  • Nightshade (百花百狼 戦国忍法帖 | Hyakka Hyakurou Sengoku Ninpou-chou) is a more recent game but also takes place in a setting where ninjas (shinobu) were more common in Japan. Expect a mix of action and romance! Highly recommended.

i just got your message~♬ my first otome game is the classic Mystic Messenger! i remember that it was the start of my weeb era hahahha. i'm not sure if it is suitable for first timer with the sudden midnight chatroom and all, but you should try it later, the story and characters is really interesting~ (and if you still don't know, LI stands for love interest)

I think it was probably Mystic Messenger, although I did play games with dating mechanics before that (such as Fire Emblem Awakening & Rune Factory 4).
Mystic Messenger was a lot of people's first otome, it's really accessible since it's free on mobile & the text chat format makes it feel very familiar to use. The story & characters are great too!

My first otome game is Olympia Soiree. Its give me high expectations on art, story and quality of the visual. When I played other otome game, Olympia is still top rank. I have a lot of expectations on new otome game but still never reach Olympia yet! New release english version Olympia 2 will come out! I am having a big high expectations what they will bring to the table. My boyfriend loves to hear Olympia story so he is expectations Olympia 2 like me to bring more to the table. I have played other otome game, but the art bring me more attention with a lot of details.

Girl, sameee! Technically I played Collar X Malice & Cafe Enchante first, but Olympia Soiree was the very first Nintendo Switch (not ported) Otome that I pre-ordered the pyshical one. Satoi's artwork is gorgeously ethereal there and the character design, UI, theme, music, CG, everything was so iconic to this day. Sometimes I play it just to stare at the front menu that change color along with time of the day. I love Akaza, Tokisada, and Riku aaa. I played Cafe Enchante and Collar X Malice around the same time, so I don't really know which exactly the first haha. I turned on my Switch and opened Cafe Enchante to listen for the BGM too sometimes! The cafe ambience & jazz music was so healing :")

my first romance for women game was Candy love I was about 10 or 11, and I can't remember how I came to know the game itself lol. From then on I started playing Forbidden love, my first Japanese mobile otome and I continued to play many others. Then my first paid otome was Amnesia memories and from then I couldn't leave the console otome games, it's just way better than mobile otome in my opinion.
 
I got into the otome world with ChatLinx! It was a mobile game. But what really made me fall in love with it was Amnesia and mystic messenger (˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶)
 
It was Yo-Jin-Bo, Clover no Kuni no Alice, and La Corda d'Oro.

I went into all of them completely blind, knowing barely any Japanese or English, but I was really curious about the whole VN genre. Ever17: The Out of Infinity was super popular at the time and had been translated into my language, so that's actually how I discovered VNs in the first place. Then I got a PS Vita, and that's when I really fell down the rabbit hole and discovered so many more games.

I love Akasa the best for the story. I can't wait for Olympia 2 to come out soon upcoming year Spring. I am looking foward to secret route!! I love their opening and ending song from Olympia 1 so I have high expectations on 2!
 
My first otome game was Amour Sucré (Amor Doce where I live) and I played it when I was a 10 year old child lol
I thought it was really cute at the time! But it took years for me to actually explore the genre of otome games...
I went through the phase of playing some mobile ones like Mystic Messenger. And, then bought my first one on PC (Amnesia), which I still haven't finished by the way because I wasn't used to finish multiple endings with different LI...
But I think everyone starts somewhere and adquire their own tastes, which is why there are many tropes and not all recommendations of otome games are for everyone!
