Weird quirks or preferences when you play otome games?

(ㅅ´ ˘ `) I can only finish games if they're around/under 30 hours, and I finish them in one go over the span of 2 weeks tops.
also everyone is right about kissing noises - never understood why people were into that. if only vns let me turn off kissing noises while keeping all the other voice acting!

I like to play the routes or characters I'm less interested in first, saving my favorites for later.

I also prefer to get the bad endings out of the way before going back to collect the good ones.

Quirk: Sometimes I'd rather play as the main lead's friend or the game's villainess. It would be a fun spin on perspectives.

I wouldn't say the kissing noises bother me that much ~ but Diabolik Lovers was quiet surprising lol

I often find myself unconsciously watching videos on my phone while playing games. Usually, it's because I open my phone to look up walkthroughs, and before I know it, at least half an hour has passed. Now I've tried setting walkthrough images as my lock screen wallpaper, and thankfully, so far it's been working well. I subconsciously check my phone much less often than before.

Seems like a couple of us here don't like kissing noises... I'm one of them too haha.

As for my own preferences... I like to do the bad endings first! That way the good ending feels more happy and satisfying. I also save the true/canon ending or route (if there is one) for last as well.

I don't like games that lack features to make progressing through the walkthrough smoother, such as skipping or option jumping.

Wondering if anyone else has odd opinions or quirks about otome games, or preferences when playing them.

For example, I don't really like scenes where you hear kissing sounds.. which I know sounds weird considering the kind of genre this is lol.

I'll also stop a game midway if another I've been waiting for comes out that I like more. That one may be less weird, but I know some are all about finishing their current game first.

So what about you?
I like the voice actors, but I also like lip sounds!

One of my weird little quirks is that I really dislike it when a character doesn't blush at all when they're hugged or kissed. If they stay completely unfazed, it just makes them come off as a playboy or someone who's done this a thousand times, and it kills the romance for me 😭

I know some people like the super smooth, unbothered types, but I personally need at least some reaction embarrassment, fluster, anything. If there's no blush, no pause, no change in expression, it just doesn't feel genuine or special.

I don't know if it's strange, but mixing psychological horror with romance has always been one of my favorite genres.

I like getting the bad endings first! I also usually like taking a short break after getting a proper bad ending (as in the ones that aren't just a quick "You Died" scene) before moving onto the good end.
I like taking a few hrs to basically absorb it all and it also helps me remember the details of the different endings better!
I also like playing only one console/pc otome game at a time and always want to completely finish it before starting a new one

they used to do binaural(?) audio?? idk what its called.. dummy head mic?

I really loved it in diabolik lovers and shiratsuyu no kai...

The sound of footsteps bothers me when characters are walking around, like in Mistonia's Hope. Also, when I notice background sounds repeating, like the chattering sound in Hakuoki where there's a moment with a female high-pitched voice for a second and you know it's going to repeat in a few moments later haha. It distracts me, and sometimes I find myself having to read the same phrase in the dialogue box over and over again. And an extra problem is male characters with long hair; I don't know why, it's just bother me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I also don't like kissing sounds. One quirk of mine is I like to hear startled voices or funny lines on repeat, especially when the voice breaks. Wish games has a save voice line function.

The Story must be interesting enough or have unexpected mini gameplay if boring i'll stop playing it for awhile before continue when i have times

I complete only one course per day. If a course is too long and I have to continue the next day, I rest immediately after finishing that course and postpone the next one until the following day.

Being forced to play every route or see all the bad endings just to unlock the one I want is so annoying. It stops feeling like a choice and starts feeling like a chore.
When a game forces me through routes I don't care about, it ruins the immersion. I want to make my own choices, not follow a pre-set path just to unlock the content.

Course? Well that is one big course then if it can last you for an entire day! Geez, how many calories do you eat?

Do you mean route?

I was talking about the game. The translation came out a little odd.

For some reason it really bothers me if the BGs are too half-assed or barely colored like in Amnesia. Or when they're just photos with a filter on top. It's much easier for me to get immersed in a game where there's been put more care into the backgrounds. I also don't like if they only have very few backgrounds that keep rotating but if it's drawn well I can still appreciate it.
