"Thanks / Like "

I have been lurking around and finally joined a few weeks ago and something I have noticed and been wondering about here it that it seems like very few members or guests use the "Thanks and Like" buttons here...

Is there a reason?

I have always used those buttons to express my appreciation to the poster for sharing his links or images with me and everyone else instead of posting a "Thanks nice post" message in his thread which does bump the thread to the top but also sends out a false update to members that are subscribed to that thread making us think something new has been posted.

So My question to everyone is this... Is it better to post a "Thanks for the post" message in a thread or better to use the "Thanks" button?

Hmm... depends... Thanks gives them more points in something or another but an actual post would seem more sincere...

Just use the "Thanks" button. My reasons are largely what you've stated (avoiding unwanted pointless bumping of threads) and also samyeung's.

My 8,142 "thanks" are largely to the uploaders here on AS; they also serve to help me keep track of previously downloaded material. As for "likes", to be honest I rarely find much that I'd give a "like" for.

I use "like" more often and would love to see more people use it! XD

I guess it's best to do both.Thanks buttton gives rep to user when comment shows him respect for his efforts.
