I get the feeling that sometimes psychological trauma is exaggerated by fan communities who really love stories about trauma, making them seem more like the trauma real people experience. Even if a guy is naturally a demon who loves doing evil things just because of who he is (if it's canon), not because of trauma per se.

If the story does this skillfully by weaving the plot together without going too far - It's OK
I've heard one opinion that girls are tired of comforting guys in relationships, and that they're looking for games where someone will comfort them instead. And this is a common rescue pattern that can indeed be quite tiring.
