Recomendations?

Right so. Hope I'm posting this in the right thread.

I was hoping I could get a few recommendations for things to watch. I'm still new to the wonderful world of anime, so I've only really watched more mainstreamstuff like NAruto and One Piece. There are a few exceptions of course, that helped me get into anime. Namely Valvrave, Buso Renkin, Polyphonica, and Date A Live.

Anyway, I was hoping to get recommendations on what might be called "Slice of Life With a Twist," for lack of a better term. I like the concept of "This is a normal setting, but X" Like how Valvrave is a normal highschool with a giant robot or how... Well actually all those examples are of highschool stories, huh?

Anyway, I hope I can get some input here. Thanks!

I always tell people who are new to anime to watch Miyazaki Movies like Spirited Away, Howls Moving Castle, Castle in The Sky, and My Neighbor Totoro to name few, its a great way to get introduced to the world of anime.

Angel Beats!, Gakkougurashi!, and Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu come to mind immediately.
Soul Eater isn't a perfect fit, but still a pretty safe bet given that you enjoy shounen.
Other than that, I can think of Softenni (ecchi/NSFW), Sora no Woto (cute girls doing cute things, in a way), Maria Holic (comedy), Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu (comedy, again), Hatsukoi Limited (more ecchi), A Channel (cute girls doing cute stuff + comedy), and finally Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou (more comedy).

Given that you're new to anime and given what you're looking for, I'd start with Angel Beats!. The rest are pretty much without order, though Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou may be best saved until you've watched some more anime.
