Otome or BL which is better

Both genres are fine! I used to fanatize being a fujoshi, but I think as I get older, I lean more toward otome because... I need some love too y'know.

I think both are good if done right.
For example I want to play the part of the seme in BL games, problem is there are far too little BL games that do that.

Same for Otome, I want to play the part of a woman who is a dom/top, y'know a pegger or futa that penetrates the males, but that is never the case typically, instead the woman is a boring bottom, if I wanted that I would just play hentai games, let's be real here...

I preffer BL mainly due to its tendency to lean towards darker stories, even some of the arguably TERRIBLE games tend to hold a special place in my heart, like the equivalence of watching the room in a visual novel format XD. If I ever feel like I need a bit of a breather thats when ill tend to aim for an otome title but I generally read all genres from mystery to horror to romance!

BL games when they're focused on the characters and plot instead of sex.
But mostly Otome games.
Because I like fluff.

I absolutely love both otome games and BL games.
However, with BL games, I can only enjoy works from the uke's perspective.
Even when immersed in BL, my heart remains that of a otome.

One isn't better than the other, in my opinion. But they fill different spaces for sure.

Otome in general, and for more emotional romance.
BL for smut, more NSFW oriented and CG's that otome games stray away from.

One isn't better than the other, imo. They're good at different things. Hell, even subcategories of the genres are different.

Since this is a games forum....

BL games tend to be made by sickos for sickos. Which means they tend to be more auteur, and deals with darker themes that go hard. I would not say that BL deals with feelings less than otome games (there is certainly a portion that focuses on smut, but so does smutty otome tbh) but the feelings they deal with tend to be pretty different and less soft, imo.

Otome games are more general audience, and I think in general they tend to be gentler on the audience and less heavy handed with their darkness (exceptions exist, especially lately heehee). The romances are more affirming, and I think the growth of the protagonist tends to be more positive. Also, JP otome especially tends to avoid graphic violent content that BL games often revel in, even if the subject matter is dark.

I like both for different moods. Love stories are great in all forms!

For me personally, I just have never been able to get into BL in general so I'd go with otome obviously. lol.

I prefer BL games: seeing the story through a male perspective feels fresh, and many plots confront brutal, realistic situations that otome titles never touch. I'd rather follow a tenacious protagonist than live in a sugar-coated fairy tale.

Both! I think for me what matters most is the writing. For me I prefer slow burn, intimate romances. So a lot of BL content isnt really catered to me.

However I love homo-sexual relationships presented in a healthy way in media.
For example, I love Hans Capon and Henry from Kingdom Come.

When I play games, I don't need a sense of immersion; I just need to find the story interesting. So I play Otome games, BL games, and Galgame. But if you ask me which one I like the most, I would answer "BL games".

I play all kinds of games and always step into the main character's shoes to enjoy the story, whether they're a boy or a girl.

I think both otome games and BL games are great as long as they have good scripts and appealing art styles haha. There are also plenty of excellent BL games out there…www

I don't reject either of them. In terms of playtime, BL takes up more. BL plots are bolder, while otome is a bit more gentle. Otome also has very bold themes. Generally speaking, it depends on personal preferences for playing. You can also choose based on your mood at the time of playing.

I can't choose between BL and Otome, but i can say that sometimes, i feel torn to play an Otome that it seems to be written as a BL. Because, the player is supposed to cheer for the MC and LI, but when the Lis has better chemistry between themselves or other NPCs than the MC...

Damn...that hurts for MC, but i do still feel glee seeing these two men love each other. But it sucks that these two men are 'forced' to love MC and not each other freely...

Or that the game tries to imply that these two men 'hate' each other, when there are scenes where they would jump to death to save each other.

I like both, but BL games tend to go into darker topics.
If the characters are compelling and the story is interesting, I don't mind.
Some (not all) otome games can hold back on themes, and sometimes I wish they would go a bit further.
On the other hand, sometimes BL games go waaaay too far. I prefer balance in both genres.

Honestly it depends on the game for me. But as I get older I tend to like the storys and charcters from otome games, bls tend to dive into darker themes. Themes I now longer find interesting to read, while im not saying otome doesnt dive into dark themes (I'm looking at you Virche Evermore....) It feels like the ratio of Dark to fluff in otomes makes for a is much better experience. (˃ᆺ˂✿)

Both are good, I like both. I did get into BL first before otome so I definitely lean more into liking BL. It's rare for an otome MC to be voiced so BL is better in that sense.
