I've just started to seriously teach myself Japanese, and I've become stuck on one little thing - contractions. How exactly do they work? I'm a bit confused on about everything.

Any descriptive advice will do. Arigatou.

You mean contractions as in this?

What is it that confuses you? (that Wiki explanation is already good, in my opinion)

That's a good wiki explanation. I take it your textbook doesn't have a good explanation Shadowlock? But I guess having multiple books/resources to go to if something doesn't make sense according to one explanation is really helpful.
