How do you pick your otome game?

the cover art, idc about the voice actors that I never follow them, I just need to read the stories

Hmm... I've never really thought about it, but I usually look at the synopsis first. If the plot catches my interest, I'll give the game a try. I don't really care whether it's an indie game or one from an otome game company, and I'm not too picky about the graphics either.

I usually go for the art style first and having Japanese voice acting is a big plus! i also tend to prefer modern settings because sometimes i just want to escape into a romance that feels closer to real life hahaha

If the art catches my eye that is enough to convince me to give it a try

When choosing a game, I first look at how beautiful the artwork is, and then decide based on whether the opening video catches my eye.

first, i look at the art style and the men… let's be real, if the husbandos are hot enough, i'm already halfway sold 😭😂 and i'm VERY easily influenced by instagram and tiktok, so if i see everyone fangirling over a game, suddenly i need it too. my wallet never stood a chance (╥﹏╥)

Usually my friend play a lot of otome games and tells me about them. our tastes are usually pretty similar so we often play the same games together! A good story and a beautiful art style are usually the most important things to me 🥰✨

If I'm buying, Art >= Story > Voice Actors > Characters.
But memorable games tend to have good music and I do check music preview.

For me, the MC's personality is what I mainly focus on. Even if the story and art is good, if the MC's personality is too weak and she doesn't stand up for herself, it's a no. Usually I look at reviews and read some summaries on Otome blogs to gauge the MC's personality.

First, I get drawn in by the artwork, then I check the reviews before buying! I skip the ones with spoilers, but if the overall reception seems pretty good, I'll usually go for it!

I'm a sucker for art, so I always play based on artwork. Lately, I go by who is the voice actor in the game.

I usually end up playing a game because I'm drawn to the illustrations, the story, or the setting.
I also play games that have good reviews.

probably mainly art style dependent... but then again there are works where i like the art style but non of the LIs are interesting to me so I end up not really wanting to play it. The vibe of the story/plot also plays quite a big part too, Im more interested in darker/more tense action stories then lovey dovey fluff. Then the rest is probably more like three-strikes-youre-out turnoff? like if i would give it a try if it satisfied at least one of my interests, but i will drop/not start it if i get enough icks

I search the voice actors on VNDB lol, also try to search for specific LIs (rn I'm playing games with cross-dressers/femboys but otherwise characters with long hair are a must!). It's ok if it's an old game. I'm willing to play different genres/aesthetics as long as I'm interested in the LIs, and if there are no LIs I 'm interested in I won't play the game no matter how liked it is (ex. Collar x Malice, Birushana...)

For me, it's the art; that's always what draws me in first. Then I look at the plot, and finally, I check the reviews—if most of them are positive, I buy it.

I prioritize the story when making my choice. Even if the story isn't quite to my taste, I might still decide to purchase it if there's a character I really like. I also place importance on the developer, the scenario writer, and the illustrator.
