Maybe I'm just a cuckold or something; I love it... I'd like to see an MC using the LI as a replacement as well - a sort of "surrogate love" for one another, but even one-sidedly, it's pretty cute, right?
The first (and only) LI i've seen exhibit something like this trope (basically 1:1 just, you know, taiali lore) is The Wizard from taiali, and it was super cute ~ a couple who arent really in love like that are the best. Especially in the fandisc.
The complicated feelings that arise from fake love becoming real love are really good - you can't play at love without knowing what real love is, or play at love without it eventually becoming something at least a little "real". I wish they had gone into that "And yet a trace of the true self exists in the false self" idea more, but even without it, it's really fun.
