Fantasy or everyday otome?

Which type of otome do you prefer: fantasy with fictional worlds, magic, and so on, or everyday otome (school, college, or workplace romance)?

Personally, I find everyday otome more boring because that's what happens in the real world, whereas fantasy stories appeal to me much more.

For example, I started playing STORM LOVER, and despite the characters' star-studded voice cast (Miyano Mamoru, Kaji Yuuki, Hatano Wataru), I couldn't stick with it for long—it was boring. Although there are exceptions when an everyday otome can be pretty good.

I'm into both, but I tend to prefer fantasy otome! There's something really appealing about exploring a fictional world and seeing how the romance unfolds in that setting. Still, I think everyday otome can be just as enjoyable when the story clicks with me!

Sometimes when I bored with fantasy, I'll try the modern type. Fantasy gives you a dreamy like settings, while modern gives you something relatable and close.

I love both, but if one of them is R18 (otome drama cd or game)... I'll love it even more lmao

I like both, so it's hard to choose, but I prefer the fantasy one. That's because it's a story set in a fictional world with various settings, which makes it more interesting to follow.

I prefer fantasy, there is something magical about magic, fantasy creatures, things that just doesn't happen in our modern world.

I'm pretty much the opposite, I love everyday settings in otome games like Storm Lover Kai and Tokimeki Memorial.

I do love fantasy but I think it's because we get so many otome games with fantastical settings that I find regular slice-of-life otome refreshing.

I'm strictly team fantasy! Everyday settings like school or work just feel too ordinary to me, whereas fantasy worlds offer that magical escape you can't get in real life.

I like games with ancient and fantasy magic themes, they are very interesting. The modern urban genre feels quite ordinary, and I think it mainly depends on the quality of the script. A good script story, no matter what type, will make people want to play with it. A bad script will only make people feel bored and unattractive.

I like fantasy more.
It's better if it doesn't exist in reality!
I play to relieve stress from work, but if the game is set in a company, even if my favorite voice actor is acting, I lose the desire to play..😭😭

I prefer fantasy games because they usually have interesting world building that I find immersive! Tho if it's everyday settings that also have fantasy or scifi aspects like Natsuzora no Monologue or Ayakashi Gohan, I also have a lot of fun and those have become my favs

I prefer my otome in a fictional setting (which may explain why I haven't played CupiPara yet LMAO). I normally play otome as a little way of getting away from reality, so having a fictional setting or just any setting that doesn't take place in the real world helps with the immersion. My only exception so far has been with Hakuoki SSL just because I was very curious to see those Shinsengumi men in a modern setting au XD

I prefer fantasy otome games and mostly play those, but sometimes I get tired of reading all the lore and world-building explanations.

As for everyday otome, I prefer ones where the LIs are obsessed with the MC or where lots of drama and unexpected events happen, rather than games with a peaceful, slice-of-life atmosphere!

I tend to prefer fantasy themes—or rather, stories that take place outside the ordinary. Personally, I find stories set outside the ordinary more interesting because I can't experience them firsthand or even imagine them, so playing through these storylines feels fresh and exciting. For example, in adventure games, the emotions that arise from elements like sword-and-sorcery combat tend to be more profound. On the other hand, I'm not particularly fond of school-themed stories because of my own experiences.

I like both but depends on mood! When I want excitement and drama, I go fantasy. When I want comfort and soft love, I go everyday. But if I have to choose, fantasy wins!

I enjoy both but my favorite is actually a mix of both, where it is an assumingly 'real-world' modern setting but there are fictional elements (ie. supernatural, ghosts, low-fantasy) rather than a full-blown world with magic & monsters to fight and the sort. TBH, setting probably doesn't really matter to me. I just need some sort of human drama haha.

i almost always prefer everyday slice of life stories or the ones that are mostly real world with fantasy mixed in <3 full fantasy has me feeling more critical since i need it to be written well with good world building for me to truly feel immersed in it ! whereas for a normal ordinary plot i find myself to be less picky about how it's handled ^^;; also it's just my personality but i find it much easier to sympathize with characters and feel attached to them when their issues are something i can see happening realistically lol

i like both, but i think i slightly prefer everyday settings. still, when a fantasy otome has a specific theme i like, i can't help but enjoy it just as much.

I like both, but when it comes to slice-of-life settings, I prefer ones that feel further removed from my real life, so things like school or workplace settings feel pretty average to me (I think it's nice when the story is set in a culture other than my own country's.)

These two themes have very different focuses. Most of the time I prefer fantasy settings because there's more room for imagination, and the more thrilling, the better. As for everyday settings, they're probably more about immersion and companionship, which I don't really care about. That said, there are well-written works in that genre too.∩_∩

I prefer slice-of-life school otome games. I guess that counts as a kind of fantasy too? Examples would be Hiiro no Kakera and Natsuzora no Monologue. They're a bit surreal but still set in the real world—Norn9 seems to be like that too?
