Do you prefer a game's villain to be punished or redeemed?

Frankly, I feel guilty when I realize "Pretty Privilege" functions in this common situation LMFAO bcs believe me whenever I encounter villains, I'd always wish them to be erased from the franchise that badddd. The only thing that usually saves them is their privilege "face card" goodness

If a villain is well written, has an intriguing backstory, and his actions make sense, I can usually find at least a bit of sympathy for him. After a long, long road of repentance and atonement for his crimes, I'd accept a redemption arc. Villains are often more interesting than the regular LIs, story-wise. And if he's sexy but wasn't romanceable in the original game, I definitely want him as a LI in the fandisc . Otherwise, I'd happily book him an appointment with Lady Guillotine.

I think like many people mentioned, it really depends on the story. Many times I feel like some villains have just gone too far to be redeemed that it is way more satisfying for them to be punished

Punished, redeemed (Or not, depending on the game tbh. I'd love to see a character who doesn't regret what they've done), and made romanceable, if we're talking about a villain with the potential to become a love interest (˘ω˘)

I want the villains in the game to "live to receive their punishment and perform acts of genuine atonement."

Not death to find release, but a fair trial, imprisonment, labor, or permanent exile (a life of wandering while performing good deeds, etc.).

They need to understand where they went wrong, unless they are completely insane, uncommunicative, and beyond redemption. Permanent cryopreservation would also be an option.

Depends how evil the villain is (⁠*⁠﹏⁠*⁠;⁠) I usually don't like villain redemption but if they're not that bad to begin with I can usually forgive them,,, but some evil guys i'd much more prefer they stayed evil and be punished especially if what they did was reaaally bad

Some villains have motivations and actions that are just ridiculously childish / absurd.
With those types, I basically just want to see them gone.
With some villains, once they get redeemed and end up with the heroine in a HE,
their original unique charm actually feels diminished, which can be pretty disappointing too.

Unless they're the kind of villain who has done things that are completely beyond redemption,
I'd like to see a convincing portrayal of how the villain and the heroine go through all kinds of emotional ups and downs before eventually getting to a HE.
If the journey that should have been full of twists and turns gets glossed over too quickly,
it just leaves me with this really uncomfortable, stuck-in-your-throat feeling.

It depends on how serious their crimes are. I can't sympathize with a villain who puts others in danger for some completely nonsensical reason.

It really depends on the villain and what they've done. I'm fine with either punishment or redemption as long as it makes sense for the character. I don't like rushed redemptions where everything gets forgiven without really addressing what they did.
