Yeah, corpos having that much money and then resorting to using AI because they want to save time and money is really scummy.absolutely, it has to be one of the reasons that an indie game may not be able to afford beautiful art right now and resorts to ai, but that corporation CERTAINLY can. ( 。 •̀ ᴖ •́ 。)![]()
oh, 100%. ദ്ദി ˉ͈̀꒳ˉ͈́ ) i've said many times in other threads, beautiful art won't keep readers if the story is terrible. in fact, there's plenty of 'blob' characters that people go absolutely feral for because they enjoyed the character and its story. shoot, even free assets are becoming even more ample in VN communities.Yeah, corpos having that much money and then resorting to using AI because they want to save time and money is really scummy.
And while I understand why there's some indie devs that use gen AI, I would be equally as harsh on them as I am with companies because, other than the other reasons on why I hate gen AI in general, if they're willing to use gen AI they might've used it for other things + it confuses me that they can probably pay up a gen AI service, but not stock photos they can edit or one of those portrait makers. Like there's many indie games that don't have 100% polished art and yet they have their fans despite that.
Basically, I'm less harsh on indie games only if there's no AI usage and even if the art isn't exactly polished and/or beautiful lol
like honey-sempai in ouran as an example? (╭ರ_•́) is it worse if the younger looking character is older than the others? i've never been a fan of that concept a la the 1000 year old dragon really being a loli character design and acts the age she LOOKS than is.It wouldn't be an issue if the character were actually young, but in school-setting stories, I find it jarring when a character looks excessively young despite clearly being the same age as the others.
ai is a given! its not even art, just a bunch of ugly generations which arent worth anything. but also
LACK OF NIPPLES ON MALES' NAKED SPRITES. why would you censor something so small anyway?? its not like male chest is sexualized! and when its just a smooth chunk of skin with nothing on it, its unnerving to me LOL
They guessed the character I was thinking of!like honey-sempai in ouran as an example? Once you start pinpointing what makes a face a bit unnerving proportion wise, it's hard to ignore! it's the same with certain vibes from art, you either like it or HAVE to ignore it as it's so widely used like gigantic (usually heroine's) eyes and lack of nose. ദ്ദി ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ )Any poor proportions in the body of the character being drawn, badly drawn hands or feet, and lately I've realized I hate bad proportions in the face (Thanks Otome Daoshi for opening my eyes). It also bothers me a bit when the art style changes between sprite and CG; this is especially noticeable in Diabolik Lovers, where Kanato is well-drawn in his sprite but becomes too amorphous in his CG sprites XD. And of course, when the character is built like a wardrobe and the protagonist looks like a child.
ouran is its own trope within tropes, haha, it's why lots of people enjoy it more after being further into the shoujo-anime lore. i definitely get what you're saying, especially when the character is drawn egregiously younger and less in the realm of someone with just a baby face. •⩊•They guessed the character I was thinking of!
If the species are different, it introduces fantasy elements, so it doesn't really bother me that much.
I feel a sense of resistance when the premise is "even though the setting is close to reality."
i'll get the pitchforks at the ready!! ψ (`∇´) ψI've said it once and I'll say it again! GIVE THE MEN NIPPLES! Free the nips!!!
100%. The opposite is true for me as well, when the character looks so old that they feel out of place. It wouldn't be an issue if the character were actually young, but in school-setting stories, I find it jarring when a character looks excessively young despite clearly being the same age as the others.
ahh, i get that one as well! especially when the love interest is on round three of puberty and the mc is baby-faced, fresh and practically a newborn. ૮₍˶ ╥ ‸ ╥ ⑅₎ა100%. The opposite is true for me as well, when the character looks so old that they feel out of place.
As for other peeves... tbh I don't mind stylized anatomy, like in suoh's past works.
this may be a hot take (or not?), but i'm just not a fan of the old school anime style. I love TMGS 1 with all my heart, but the art just isn't for me.
also ""shiny""/""oily"" artwork lmao
i agree 100%, as i've stated before with any story-media, pretty characters can never carry an unappealing story enough for me to finish it (as depressive as beautiful art with lackluster stories are.) .·°՞(っ-ᯅ-ς)՞°·.In most cases, I am quite open-minded, as the storyline is of utmost importance to me. When I encounter situations where the human proportions are distorted, I might make a small comment about it, but then I move on.
I did grow up with it! perhaps nowadays i'm probably more inclined towards more "bold"/"modern" styles. i love satoi's art in general for example, but her style for tengoku struggle takes the cake for me. i guess growing up having The World Ends with You as my favorite game says a lot lmaoahh, i get that one as well! especially when the love interest is on round three of puberty and the mc is baby-faced, fresh and practically a newborn. ૮₍˶ ╥ ‸ ╥ ⑅₎ა
did you grow up with the classic anime style? i know that's why a lot of people enjoy the art as it's a nostalgia blast but 100% is not appealing to everyone, even as an avid fan some of the designs are...definitely a choice...
your shiny/oily comment only brings to mind shirtless oiled up men, haha. is that what you mean or am i missing a whole different avenue of oily-shininess? ( ╹ -╹)
me too! TWEWY has that perfect stylized proportions and street style that i adore. gives SUCH nostalgia and is so recognizable just like KH. Tengoku is such a beatiful game, the characters are gorgeous and i love the themes and choices used for styling. when i say "oily", the first that comes to mind is Storm Lover, but this game might be a product of its era, somehow.

Girlish Love Revolution also has been ingrained in my brain, but not positively lmao

In terms of modern otoge, the shiniest that comes to mind is Melo's art for Taishou x Alice. I liked the game a lot, but i can't say i was a fan of the artstyle :x
you definitely have to learn to ignore certain art 'quirks' if it's an enjoyable story. i'm not as much as a stickler as my thread implies, this was just a fun way of venting! the big ears are an issue that sticks out (literally) to me and will borderline be ape-like making it more comical than it was intended!Early otome games, or fan-made works, often featured characters with disproportionate facial features and body shapes. For example, some characters had eyes that looked alien-like, taking up half their face; their arms were too long, resembling a chimpanzee; and their upper and lower bodies were so dissimilar that they didn't look like the same person.
I understand that newcomers need to refine their art style and character skeletal structure. As long as it's not too exaggerated, I'll turn a blind eye and continue playing.
is there any egregious example you can think of? or is it the whole vibe/proportions? because if it's the type i'm thinking of that makes eyecontact with the camera, i totally get it, gives me the heeby-jeebies sometimes! 〜(꒪꒳꒪)〜My major pet peeve is the look over shoulder spirte I hate it with my whole being. (╯°□°)╯( ┻━┻
I wouldn't say these are egregious by many means but this is what im talking about; its very off putting to me heres two examples from sympathy kiss.is there any egregious example you can think of? or is it the whole vibe/proportions? because if it's the type i'm thinking of that makes eyecontact with the camera, i totally get it, gives me the heeby-jeebies sometimes! 〜(꒪꒳꒪)〜

i still have a soft spot for the classics but good art is just...chef's kiss~
but i get it, yes, i totally get you on shiny/oily!!! ( ˶°ㅁ°) !! and you've just made me remember another tiny miniscule one but it also seems to be in correlation to the shiny art but it's that gelled, spiky over drawn hair, one where there's a (probably realistic, admittedly, lol) a gazillion hair strands illustrated where it's so disjointed in compared to the rest of the art work. your storm lover pic provides the perfect example!!

YES!!! ദ്ദി ˉ͈̀꒳ˉ͈́ )✧I Hate Mannequin Bodies ! ! ! ! Show Me The Pepperoni ! ! ! ! Better Yet , Show Me Men Boobs , Boy Pits , Male Feet , Man Buttocks ! !
Next , Composition ! !
In R18 Otome , The Lewd Art Is Drawn And To Focus The FMC . . . . . . . . . . Let Me See Bro's Cock ! ! ! ! ! Seriously Why Is The FMC Only One Stripping , Showing Skin And Getting Smashed ? ? ? Let Me See The Dude Strip , Focus On His Body , Show His Lewd Expressions ! ! ! ! Honestly , If You Want To See Men Lewds , You Are Better Off Going For Boy's Love Than Otome (HAHAHAHA)
I've Literally Played Some Galge Where The Protag Body Was On ( Quite Sexy ) Display Than An Otome Would , That's Pretty Sad . . .
Hmm , Inconsistent Body Types . . .
Seeing A Cast Of LI With The Same Build : Lean Muscle . . The Heights Being The Same Too , Give Me Variety ! ! ! Different Cock Sizes Too ! ! ! !
i wanted to dress like them so bad, i loved the street style and all the cute accessories but it does not translate as great irl (at least for me and my body) ദ്ദി( T ᗜ T )omg nomura's artstyle is so delicious in the game, it's everything to me. i just love the boldness in everything
the overdrawn and spiky hair!!!! that is one of my pet peeves as well, there's something about it that just doesn't sit with me. i think that's why i'm not a bit fan of the classic style in general! not to say that they were all bad, as they had a lot of personality and were really expressive, but overall it's just... yeah lmao
yea thats just the difference between malegaze and femgaze in general.. women are not seeking lewd expressions/sexualized or exaggerated proportions from fictional men, but rather loving/respectful attitude towards the heroine. a shame for everyone who wants to see male ahegao and stuff, but thats how things are for the most part:"3Next , Composition ! !

the hair is almost too out-of-place, like it's OVERLY emphasized where the rest of the characters' designs seem like an afterthought than given the same amount of detail and time dedicated to that of the hair. ( ´・・)ノ(._.`)
(but both of those examples of 'classic' games are a rite of passage of 'what in the world am i playing?' yet you need to continue for your battle scars) ᕙ( •̀ ᗜ •́ )ᕗ
