Canon MC name vs Self-Insert?

i don't really like picking up names myself ahaha. + i don't self-insert and read just as viewer, so i prefer leaving canon mc name. it is also a big pros to me that it's voiced, without an awkward pause for a changed name xd
 
I prefer playing under a name I've come up with myself, but rather than projecting myself onto the character, I tend to imagine the specific protagonist for that particular game. That said, wanting to make the protagonist embody my ideal character might be a form of self-projection in a way—which is perhaps why I'm not too fond of protagonists with overly strong personalities.
 
Always canon MC name. Thinking up a new name for blank-slate MC is takes my time so i always prefer the game already giving the default name to MC.
 
If the default name is voiced then i will leave it as is, otherwise i usually change it to one my nickname to self insert >.<

I've always found this such an interesting thing because my best friend self-inserts whenever possible, and I honestly hate doing it myself haha - I will often change the character's name from the default, but never to my own. If there's personality choices I'll try to pick a name that fits the vibe of the character I'm trying to build!

I like to change the name, but not to self insert, because my name feels so out of place. I choose the name depending of the time and place of the setting.
 
I don't really care either way, but since I'm too lazy to change the name, I'll probably just use the default one. I'm not the type to get into the story anyway, so I'll probably just keep ranting about the plot the whole time, lmao.
 
Neither lol. I don't like premade characters I can't change and that includes names. But I also don't like self-inserts.
I prefer to treat my MCs as another npc from the game - with the exeption that I get to decide how they look/act/etc.
I could see myself using the premade name if it's the only one voiced tho
 
Honestly, the MC's name doesn't really bother me. I play in third person anyway, so it's not like I'm trying to fully self-insert (~‾▿‾)~
 
I don't really use canon names of the mc if the're nameable and weirdly enough, I don't do self insert either. I use this one specific name that's not even close to my real name nor my Nickname Lmaooo, I don't count it as an OC either and more like a place holder that can be any protagonist... I don't know where I got it from but I just started to do it ever since I can remember.
 
I usually use canon names. Though, if there's no canon name, I open up a name dictionary and pick a name that I think that would be fitting lol
 
I never self-insert, but if I don't like the canon name I tend to search for one I like online. I also make sure that it blends in well with the setting of the game.
 
Canon name, it doesn't stop me from doing self-insert, but I like to imagine it as another character, unless the protagonist feels like a carbon copy of my personality lmao actually I do that when I really like the story and its characters, in other words I rarely do
 
Canon name, I like to hear it voiced. If not, I sometimes use the same silly name (helps when I return to the game after a long pause)
 
I always go with my own name for immersion, unless the MC is just too annoying. If that happens, I'll change the name. 🤣
But if the plot goes downhill and becomes nonsensical, I'm dropping the game entirely.
 
I don't mind there being a cannon name, but I prefer playing games where mc's name is changable
 
Canon all the way, I used my real name on the first otome I played (Piofiore) but it got really awkward and cringe real quick so I started a new save LOL
 
Partially? for formalities, I'd rather it to be the canon name. It's just that I really want the LI to speak the MC's name. But there really are instances where I can't properly fit in inside the MC's shoes with the name that's not entirely mine...?
 
I will use default name if it is voiced, if not i will use my own name. I don't think too deeply about this lol.
 
I'll consider the characters and pronunciation of the default name to see if it sounds good before deciding whether to change it.

When playing games, I prioritize immersion (not absolute) and prefer names I like to help me blend into the game's atmosphere.

If I were to change my name, I'd choose an English name, regardless of whether the game is set in Japan, the West, modern times, ancient times, the future, or an alternate world; it won't feel out of place.
