Do you prefer otome game with gameplay element or just text reading element only?

It depends on what kind of game play element and whether it fits the story. As long as it's not too difficult and tedious, it can be fun.

I would rather a VN with no minigames, but if it's say something like an RPG, life, sim, or stats raiser that happens to be an otome as well, I wouldn't mind that either. Though, I feel like it would be hard for some games to balance between romance and gameplay...

I like relaxing and reading visual novels.
I'm fine with some gameplay elements, but if they are too complicated, or conversely, too repetitive, I start to feel stressed.
I also enjoy games that focus mainly on gameplay but have romantic elements. However, I think the ideal balance is when the game and the novel aspects are clearly defined, and neither one gets in the way of progressing through the other. In that case, I can enjoy both equally well.

I prefer the visual novel format. I'm not very good at mini-games; if I start one just for a quick break but end up spending hours on it without ever clearing it, I lose my motivation, and the game just grinds to a halt 😥

I prefer the pure visual novel format since its reliable. As for having gameplay elements, it depends. I enjoy light gameplay element like the interactive text or the petting games in KLAP or Moujuutsukai to Oujisama (these are super fun and the hot voices are the best). I am not the fan of minigames since they are a hit or miss for me. Oftentimes they are kinda a slog to go through.

I wish there were otome games with more RPG or stat raising but the RPG system needs to be well balanced and fun.

In the end, I play otome games for the romance and story so as long as that shines then any gameplay element is fine with me.

I enjoy both. There aren't that many otome games to begin with, so I end up playing pretty much all kinds, but I'd love to see an otome game with gameplay more like Genshin Impact someday.

It really depends, but many of the otome games' "non-story" part is not as attractive as RPGs with "otome" facters, except La Corda d'Oro from KOEI. Really hope they can remake those games to NS and with multi-language version.

I like it when it has gameplay, but I wouldn't want the game to revolve around that. I prefer the story more, although sometimes there are minigames and I do like those :)

I'm a sucker for stat-raising in otome games. It makes me more locked in and I have a higher chance of finishing the game even if it gets too grindy. One example is 1931: Scheherazade at the Library of Pergamum — many would agree that it is too grindy but I absolutely loved the challenge of balancing the stats and trying to do all of the capers (they're like encounters or missions). I guess the romance and story takes a backseat with a game like that but honestly I don't even mind. Other games with stat-raising that I absolutely love are Heartstrings Bug, Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side series, and Jack Jeanne.

Whenever I encounter such extra gameplay element in an otome VN, I always start thinking, what have I ever done so wrong in my life to deserve this? I play VNs for leisure, I don't want to stress myself and waste time with minigames which need reflexes of an e-sport pro, have pop-quizes like in high school, need to grind like in WoW - name it yourself. I'd be happier if devs put more effort in the story itself than in the gameplay. So, for me it's the text only option.

I feel like each has its own merits. I enjoy stat-raising and small minigames (they're a lot of fun). But when lazy I just want to lie down and read the text.

Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side is my favorite otome game (series) for a reason. Otomes with gameplay is one of the things I wish there were more of out there, and I've only played vn otomes back in the day, so when I played TMGS I was instantly HOOKED, the game skyrocketed into the top of my list immediately. Vn otomes typically take me at least 2 weeks to finish, and sometimes I could fall out of interest easily. But otomes with gameplay are more engaging to me (probably because I also play a LOT of games with heavy gameplay) personally,.I never felt like I had to force myself to power through a route when playing tmgs, even if the gameplay is just a simple stat-raising. So yes, more otomeges with gameplay will be a delight to me.

I'd definitely go for games with gameplay elements—they just feel more fun

I'm not a fan of systems that feel like chores or become dull and repetitive.
I prefer gameplay systems that offer fresh and interesting perspectives.
For example:
1. If the theme is off-road racing,
I'd want to see an exciting racing system with a variety of race types and classes,
including cars, motorcycles, and bicycles.

2. If the setting is the wilderness, a deserted island, or a tropical rainforest,
I'd love to see a thrilling adventure and exploration system that really makes use of the environment.

3. If the story is set during the Age of Sail,
I'd want to see a rich, interconnected design that combines elements such as naval combat,
cargo trading, and responding to changing weather conditions.

I prefer otome games with some gameplay elements. I think they make the experience more interactive and keep me engaged, but I still want the story and character development to be the main focus.
