Tragic or Happy Ends in Otome—Which Team Are You On?

i REALLLLYYYY like bittersweet endings where maybe it might not be a happy ending for the couple but it's happier overall for the rest of the story

I'm Team Happy End all the way—life's too short not to let my favorite fictional couples ride off into the sunset together! 🌸 That said, I'll still cry my way through a tragic route for the story… then immediately replay the happy one to heal my glass heart.

team tragic but only if it ruins my mental stability in a narratively satisfying way. like… if you're going to hurt me at least make it meaningful??? don't just kill him for shock value 😭🤚

i LOVE when the bad ending feels inevitable. when all the red flags were there. when you can see the slow descent. when the cg is beautiful but devastating. that's gourmet. 67

Honestly, one of the main reasons I play otome games is that I enjoy seeing both happy and tragic endings.

Happy endings for sure. Most of the time I don't even bother with bad ends of any kind.

Honestly, I like both! I don't really enjoy games that are TRY HARDS on making "angsty" content, like Virche for example. but I really like it when they combine both, the protagonist doesn't really need to be cursed in every route and gets the worst end just to MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYBE get a happy ending. but also Happy-Go-Lucky games arent my thing either, I think I'm more of a middle ground enjoyer.

I like both bad and good endings, but I lean more towards the good ending because I want to see the MC and the LIs happy.

I definitely prefer happy endings, but honestly, the ones that stick with me the longest are the bad or sad endings.
Even after I've finished a route, those are the ones I keep thinking about. Sometimes I'll randomly remember them later and end up going back to replay them. They just leave a stronger aftertaste, I guess.

I'm usuall in happy ends, but sometimes I feel like tragic end is more suitable for certain character

I enjoy bad ends a lot! Especially when it's really tragic, then playing a good end feels more rewarding :)

I enjoy tragic endings. But they should exist as side stories. In other words, the main route must always have a happy ending. The greater the contrast between happy and bad endings, the more unique and appealing the work becomes.

I think tragic endings and happy endings each have their own charm. Tragic endings often touch people more deeply, leaving behind profound reflections and resonance, while happy endings bring satisfaction and hope, giving a positive feeling. But I prefer happy endings. I like seeing the male and female protagonists being sweet and happy together. Tragic endings make me feel sad for the whole day.

Happy ends.
I love the beauty of the protagonists being able to overcome obstacles and hardships, which makes the happy ends even more satisfying. Especially often times, I end up caring a lot about the characters. So seeing their happiness and success brings me joy as well.

I also appreciate good tragic ends and merry bad ends. The gut wrenching feeling, heart sinking feeling, or even ecstasy I feel in merry bad ends 😈I love and appreciate all those feelings!! but at the end of the day, games that *only* have these types of ends, I don't feel as satisfied compared to the ones with happy ends.

Personally, I'm also not the type to cry in depressing Utsuges either…it's Nakige that have happy endings where I cry

I love bad endings as long as they're not generic and make sense in the context of the character. Like, I really hate it when something super random happens out of nowhere (like Ash in Banana Fish) or when you make a super irrelevant decision and the character ends up dying or stuff like that has nothing to do with anything at all. That's why Over Requiem Z is the best game.

In general sad/tragic ending, but depending on characters I may want to do different things for them, especially for first run when the experience is meant to be due to my own choices, more relatable, less expectable that contribute to stronger impression due to realism from a "one-time" only illusion.
When my feelings for certain characters grow so much, I will eventually accept all endings, as if seeing different sides of the same person, and being more generous. However, the canon often remains for only the one that crystallizes my primary attraction.

im definitely on team tragic endings i absolutely love sad and depressing endings bc they often reveal so much more about the story and the characters sometimes the tragic ends honestly feel even more interesting and impactful than the happy ones

I love a good tragic ending and well deserved happy endings after everyone has been thoroughly put through the wringer lol

Tragic ends are my guilty pleasure! I like doing the good ends first before the tragic ones just in case it gets too dark for me to handle.

In my opinion, tragic ends are more memorable. It really makes you feel sad seeing all the things they went through and still end up failing :( Happy ends are needed of course, but tragic ones leaves quite an impression

i love happy endings ESPECIALLY if the story has been tragic all throughout... like hahaha atp i'll take whatever ending as long as it's happy. bittersweet ones are a cloooose second because most of the routes i end up loving are like that!
