Weird quirks or preferences when you play otome games?

Wondering if anyone else has odd opinions or quirks about otome games, or preferences when playing them.

For example, I don't really like scenes where you hear kissing sounds.. which I know sounds weird considering the kind of genre this is lol.

I'll also stop a game midway if another I've been waiting for comes out that I like more. That one may be less weird, but I know some are all about finishing their current game first.

So what about you?

I don't like it when the love interests make a speech about how incredible the MC is or how much the MC means to them and how MC has changed their lives and how they wouldn't be here without MC.

Pretty weird dislike to be having in the romance genre if I say so myself, but it is what it is.

I'm with you on the kissing sounds, and also other similar sound effects. The first time I played DiaLovers was quite a surprise!! Haha

I'd say my quirk is petnames. Don't like them at all, be it the MC or the LI using them. Nicknames are fine though! Not a deal-breaker, but it will put me off a little.

I liked kissing sounds as a teenager, but for some reason, as I've gotten older, I start to feel awkward when I hear them
I don't like it when romantic moments are too romantic. I'm not sure how to explain it😅
And I often lose interest in the route closer to the happy ending

Maybe not so strange, but I have an urge to start with the first instalment, even though they are not really connected. I just don't want to miss any cool references ><. Similar to the previous point, when playing visual novels, game guides are my bible. I go for 100% runs, so I want to optimize my time and get the most out of the story (eg following route order).

Oh boy, do not, I repeat DO NOT play Diabolik Lovers 😆

Too late! I played the first two games in the franchise already haha

Took me way longer than should have, I kept taking breaks from the routes when the petnames and sound effects were too much for me 😶

And oh boy those pet names were something
Classic bitch-chan (Laito), chichinashi (Ayato) but also kachiku (Ruki), mesabuta (Yuuma) or my favorite emu-neko-chan by Kou
Have I missed some XDD?

Not sure how unusual/uncommon this is, but I do something similar with TV shows. I go on an all out binge finishing everyone's routes (usually because I'm gunning for someone unlocked late-game or for a secret ending) but then stop just when I'm about to start the last route. Not even a brief hiatus but rather a full-blown "okay I'll drop this for one to two months before I play again." Sometimes I even forget to come back in time and have completely forgotten all the context. 😭

My first playthrough/route in any game has to be played blindly and choices are made according to my natural instincts. I like to see what kind of ending I would get if I were in mc's shoes and if I would even survive(most of the time I end up with a bad end or a game over screen lmao).

Without relying on guide/walkthrough i end up entering MC route/Bad ending aka not entering any LI route (lol). My very first experience with Love revo NDS as my very first otome games and also mystic messenger, ever since then i can't play otoge without guide/walkthrough.

Voice actor/actress that available when they're doing "it", sound of moans and kissing sound and other sfx that i can't explain is kinda eh? and embarrassing me a lot that it's hard for me to play 18+ otome games or even eroge and ended up with not finishing it before i start them.

Gosh, I really dislike the kissing sounds. At some point I muted DiaLovers just to finish the game lol.

I also dislike when characters confess that they madly fell in love with the MC at first sight even before they started to interact with her. I don't know, it just feels... cheap, probably?

I often like to play the route of the love interest I like best (or second best) at the end of game. I usually try to complete of all possible routes, so it's like a little treat to myself at the end,lol
Also I agree about kissing sounds, it's pretty much always just sounds awkward (imo)

When I play games, if there are hidden character routes, I will go and play. Hidden routes easily arouse my curiosity and interest. And, there's also a hobby, I really like the plot where the female lead pursues the male lead, it feels quite interesting.:alice_glitter:

Personally, I hate making myself the protagonist. I don't know if it makes sense, since all otome games are first-person, haha.

But for example, I prefer to be an observer who can influence the story. If the heroine (protagonist) has a default name, I usually let her use it, and if not, I pick any nice-sounding Japanese name and give it to her.

Kissing sounds don't bother me, but only if they sound... well, natural, I guess? I need to believe it's a real kiss, a not wet slapping noises. Also, when I start a game, my inner perfectionist kicks in, I have to finish it completely, even if it's boring and I have to take a break before finishing. I just don't like leaving things unfinished, hehe

When you're forced to play through e v e r y o t h e r c h a r a c t e r r o u t e before unlocking the route of the character you ACTUALLY got the game for, that makes me 👁️ 👄 👁️ 🔪 like bro I get you want to let the story unfold a certain way but ain't nobody got time for all that I HAVE WORK TOMORROW JUST LET ME PLAY THE ROUTE FOR THE ONLY CHARACTER I ACTUALLY GIVE A DAMN ABOUT!!!

I love listening to ASMR scenes especially with a good pair of headphones (I use Sennheiser HD 599), I instantly melt having my ears violated by sexy close up voices, especially in Akuyaku Reijou wa Mendere Ouji ni Ecchi na Goumon Sareru Nante Bug Desu ka

Another thing I like to do is play through one characters route fully if an otoge has sequels or fds. For example in Utapri, I will play Masato's route from Utapri -> Amazing Aria -> Debut -> ASAS before going another route.

I dont mind that, as long as it makes sense narratively.

Even if Tempest
did character routes really well!
