Dont get me wrong i love visual novels but damn tell me why one of em could be 40hrs worth of time when in reality its probably 30% plot and 70% the characters wondering if square or round lunch boxes are better and the mc yapping in detail on why he cant tie his shoes.
Maybe its cuz i possibly have adhd that i cant focus on such games. I like a writing that tells the plot beautifully, and naturally some details in! Not too short nor too long.
Why must i spend a good god knows how long time reading why the city became the mess it is when they didn't give me a reason yet to care about the game? This isnt history class

I totally get what you mean. Long visual novels aren't necessarily bad, but the pacing can become exhausting when the story spends hours on tiny details that don't really add much to the plot or characters. I also prefer writing that gives enough detail to make the world feel alive without making every simple action feel like a ten-minute lecture. When a VN keeps the story moving while slowly introducing its world and characters, even a 30–40 hour game can feel surprisingly short. For me, it's less about the actual length and more about whether every scene feels like it has a reason to be there.

Yeah definitely. I really get annoyed when the prologue takes too long to introduce all the characters when I've already made up my mind on what route to pursuit. I also don't like when routes are only unlocked once you have completed certain characters routes (especially if I don't like those characters) but I guess that's another conversation

If I know it gets good later then I don't mind. Like with Steins gate it takes FOREVER to get started but i knew it was gonna get good later, so i actually enjoyed seeing how long the slice of life was going to last.

Hahaha, I can totally understand how you feel! Long VNs can get on my nerves sometimes too, but I think it really depends on the story. If the writing is good, I can actually get so absorbed in it! But if the content has little to do with the actual story and is just there to pad out the word count, I get so annoyed. I'll still read through it, but it gets pretty tedious and boring.

The longest one I've played was around 52 hours, I think (that's the longest one I actually kept track of). There are a few other long VNs I've played without keeping track of my playtime, though, so I might replay them sometime when I have more free time and keep track of the hours this time!

I haven't read steins gate, do you reccomend it?
