Have you ever sped up an (R-18) otome audio drama?

Hey everyone!

I have a bit of a confession to make, and I'm really curious if anyone else here is guilty of doing the same thing!

Normally, I listen to R18 otome audios at the standard 1.0x original speed to fully enjoy the binaural sound design, breathing, and atmosphere. But I remember once listening to an R-18 otome audio where the scenario was moving pretty slowly, and the voice actor was speaking at an ultra-slow pace to convey the character's personality.

My patience ran out, so I hit 1.3x playback speed just to get through the plot faster—even though my Japanese isn't fluent! Surprisingly, it made the track way less boring for me in that moment, though hearing binaural whispers at 1.3x speed was definitely an... unique experience.

It made me really curious about everyone else's listening habits here!

I rarely speed up otome audio since I don't understand that much Japanese. It's just that sometimes the plot moves a bit too slowly, making me lose patience a little .

Ehh I've never done that, but that's mostly because I listen to them as a sleep aid. So if there are slow sections, they will just end up very relaxing to me and I will fall asleep faster lmao

I've never encountered one that moves pretty slowly, and I don't think I have the patience for it either lol. Rather than speeding it up, I'll drop it entirely. Speeding up a drama CD with my current Japanese would be a disaster!

Yeah, I get it. I do listen to things before bed, but rarely *to* fall asleep; my brain gets too focused on the plot, making it harder to drift off. So, with audio content that has a slow-moving story, I just want to finish it and know the whole plot before sleeping—otherwise, curiosity keeps me up all night .

Yeah, normally I'd skip those parts, but the plot was a bit slow—though still engaging enough—so I had to fast-forward to get the full story and, most importantly, find out the ending; I really wanted to know if it was a happy ending or a bad one

When the plot progresses too slowly and becomes boring, I speed it up. Fortunately, every voice actor enunciates very clearly, so I can still understand it at 2x speed.

So there was a listening method like that..! I never even thought about listening at double speed I want to know the voice actor's breathing and acting tempo, so I don't think I'll do this again

I'm actually quite surprised by your habit of listening at increased speeds. If I tried listening at 2x speed, my brain would just freeze up—I wouldn't have a clue what I was listening to .

I do sometimes fast-forward or skip through parts when the story gets boring, but I've never actually listened to one at a faster speed.

I feel like I'd probably start laughing, but if the original speech is that slow, maybe it would actually sound pretty normal at 1.3x?! The sound effects and binaural whispers could get pretty funny too. Maybe I could even listen to scary stuff that way!

No I haven't tried haha, but sometimes I do get impatient and just skip ahead to the "main event." Other than that, I mostly let the track play since I usually listen to them to help me fall asleep lol

Yeah, same here. Sometimes I'm short on time, or the exposition is just so long and tedious that I have no choice but to speed it up.

Haha, I think I'm just used to it because I've been watching and listening to things that way since I was a kid.
I don't skip anything, though—I just speed up the playback because I don't want to miss anything.

If you mean the pitch, maybe my player just has a setting for that or something. I never changed anything, I just listen at 2x speed and it sounds normal. Maybe you could see if your player has a pitch preservation setting?

Your description is so cute, hahaha. It really does seem that way if the audio itself is fast-paced. Some slow-paced radio dramas don't have this problem.
